If you think the word "punk" has anything to do with Ashton Kutcher, listen up.

An urban youth movement that was one part attitude, one part music and three parts style, punk is what the 1970s gave us (well, okay, punk and Watergate ... and the OPEC Crisis. Whatever.) Thirty years after punk hit hard in New York and London, the BBC is running a three part series on its BBC World Service "Close Up" program chronicling what punk was.

Iggy Pop, the Sex Pistols, the Ramones, CBGB, mohawks, nose rings: that's "punk." That annoying guy with the crooked hat who plays tricks on people to the adulation of MTV? That's "a punk."
