Backless underwear?
There are strong opinions out there about the "whale-tail." You know, it's the part of a thong or g-string that peeps out above your pants and looks like a whale's tail. Some people think it's hot, and there are even manufacturers who capitalize on it. Others call it trashy. I shall make no comment (for now).If you're part of the no-whale-tail group, but still want to wear those ultra-lowrise jeans and pants, you can try these "backless thongs" (because really now, it's not a good idea to go girl-commando in jeans). The thing, er, thong, is "specially designed with adjustable leg bands that lift and flatter your bottom. Simple and discreet, these leg bands also hold Backless Lingerie in place, removing the need for an uncomfortable and revealing g-string." They say it works well for those form-fitting even dresses as well.
At first, it looked totally stupid to me, but then I thought about it. While I can't figure out how well they would stay on, with the straps wrapping around your legs, they're probably more comfortable than the regular thong, if you know what I mean.

I stopped wearing thongs a couple years ago. I had been a bit sheltered growing up so when college came around I "rebelled" (against what, I'm not sure) and bought thongs. I didn't find them particularly comfortable or enjoyable. Seamless lines weren't an issue for me (I wore jeans all the time). And I guess they looked *kinda* hot but really it's because your butt's pretty much naked. Besides, guys will think you look good in any kind of underwear as long as it's not the control-top kind that cover your belly.
I'm not sure where I was going with this...
Oh right. So it's been awhile since I've worn thongs and I'd be interested to give this one a try. I mean, you're right.. they can't be more uncomfortable than regular thongs. My concern is that the feeling of my underwear riding down my leg will leave me picking at the back of my pants way too often throughout the day. Not sexy.

Sorry, these look stupid...wouldn't wear them but then, I didn't wear "regular" thongs either. Tried them, very uncomfortable and I believe in being comfortable "especially with underwear & shoes"

Hi Everyone - Lisa here from Backless Lingerie. Thanks for the link, and the evenly weighted conversation about these. Well, I might actually be a bit biased, since I work for the company, but I love them.
Let's be honest - they do look a bit unusual, and probably the first two questions / statements I get when showing and selling these at fashion fairs is 'Do they stay up' and 'are they uncomfortable'. To some women, the idea of having those leg thingys under your bottom is a bit strange. So, in the interests of sharing the knowledge, here's my comments and experiences.
1. Do they Stay Up? YEP - Over $300,000 has been spent patenting the whole concept of lingerie without a waistband, and we have many manufacturers (including saralee) interested in licencing the design. Why do they stay up? Well, basically, because your bottom is wider than your groin. So, without trying to sound overly practical, it's a bit like putting a rubber band over a cone - it naturally wants to rise. They stay in place really well, and I personally use them when I am jogging.
2. Are they comfortable? Yep - think about it this way - the 'leg strap' (Gee Whiz i hate that phrase - makes them sound like a jock strap - if anyone has a better way of describing it, please email) is actually in the same place as the bottom elastic on a normal pair of panties - so, how can it be any less comfortable than a normal pair. In fact, without a waist-band digging in when i sit down, I find these are extremely comfortable indeed - more so than a G or normal panties.

Hi Sharon!
Yep - it will be pretty rare to find them in stores - mostly only in specialty stores at the moment. I don't know where most of the customers from styledash.com are from - but we do have some retailers in the UK and Europe. At the moment we don't have any major market penetration in the US however, so we are tending to focus the majority of our promotion on the web. Price you can get off the web is about half retail price anyway, and our site, http://www.backlesslingerie.com/page.html?id=19 is offering a further 25% off all orders of 4 or more, and 40% off all orders of 10 or more for the month of September. Myself or Kylie pack your order, and it will generally take from 4 days to 3 weeks to arrive depending upon where you are from (we are in Australia).
Also Derek is right - they have been around for a couple of years - however there have been a few minor design changes since they first hit the market so we have just re-launched. These are mostly to do with the fabric - we have started using much higher quality lace and higher thread count cotton-lycra in the body to make them more breathable and comfortable - this has really made an already exceptional product outstanding.
Thanks for all your positive comments and look forward to seeing you on our site - and don't forget, if you decide not to buy, that's fine - just have a browse - but we always appreciate if you can click on a few of our advertisers on the site as every click makes us a few cents - which helps us advertise and hopefully get this product out to a broader market.
All the best and thanks again for your interest, and we appreciate you finding and talking about our unique product, Sarah! Most of the coverage we get on the net pooh-poohs the product a bit because it's a bit unusual - appreciate your balanced perspective.

I'd heard about these a while back but they sounded kind of weird - and yes! the first question on my mind was, how comfortable could those leg straps be? But it does sound like they might be quite comfortable.
It's definitely worth buying a few pairs to try out, I think ...
