Entertaining the Amy Sedaris way

Siblings Amy and David Sedaris have always made me want to consider the possibility that genius -- comedic or otherwise -- is a genetic thing. Many people are aware of David's quirky, hilarious books, several of which have sat deservedly on the best seller's list for months at a time. But fewer people are aware of David's lesser known but equally funny sister, Amy Sedaris. Unless you happened to catch her in the bit role as Carrie Bradshaw's publisher on Sex and the City or as the ever-endearing, ever-repulsive Jerri Blank on the show Strangers with Candy, you would probably wouldn't have a reason to know about her distinctive style of comedy, much less that she is an accomplished hostess.

But now, Amy Sedaris has her own book on home entertaining called "I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence." And while Amy Sedaris is no Martha Stewart, she does know how to work it in the kitchen and in the living room. (I say this despite her suggestion that hostesses should fill their medicine cabinets with marbles to discourage nosy house guests. Yikes!) The book contains recipes as well as practical advice, such as how to get rid of vomit stains or how to freeze meatballs.
