Holiday hairstyling help from InStyle

We may not have even hit Thanksgiving yet, but the holidays have been here since ... Labor Day. As we settle into the second half of November, we need to start thinking not only about holiday gifts shopping, but holiday parties. Lots of companies will do their corporate "holiday parties" late in November, in order to avoid the insanity of holiday scheduling that involves the usual days off, vacations, and of course, conflicts with all the other parties that are taking place. That means we need to start planning to be a fabulously stylish party guest now.Styledash will be on hand with holiday ideas and tips for great things to wear, but for now, girl, what do we do about that hair? You certainly can't pile it all on top of your head like a condor's nest. Your co-workers have seen you do that every day when you tumble into work! For a little inspiration, take a peek over at InStyle's Holiday Hair How-To, which has several hairstyles that are glamorous, yet won't require a team of stylists armed with blow-dryers and brushes. Not only do they have the hairstyle as worn by a celebrity, but tips about what products you should use to get the best results. The one I'll be sporting all season will probably be the Party Pony -- a sleek ponytail like Jessica Alba's, with height in the front for a little holiday drama.

I really like the Ponytail look because I have long hair and it's the best way to keep it out of my face, that drives me crazy. So,that is where my question begins, I always wear my hair in a ponytail but all slicked back mainly because my hair is very thin & straight. This one in the pic(Jessica Alba's) I like a lot, how it puffs-up on the top, but I can never get my hair to do that,if I tease it then I have a terrible time with the knots and I haven't found the right product to use to make my hair do that puffy top like in the pic, my hair is so thin it keeps parting in the middle.Does anyone else have this problem? If you do or anybody can help me with some advice, I would appreciate it very much, thanx.

"Star-inspired hairdo" A ponytail?????? How original! Oh, hey, but how convenient.....I wouldn't need to redo my hair after a workout session at the gym..just change my clothes and voila! I'm ready to party!

Hey Pat...try that style when your hair isn't totally clean...a little natural oil goes a long way...you can set it with some velcro rollers which give body but not curl ,spray and let it sit while you do your makeup and get ready...remove the rollers and then tease lightly with a comb...smooth with a flat or "paddle" brush....it's an elegant look that not everyone can appreciate or carry, but you sound as though you are willing to try...that's what beautiful women know...it's all how you carry yourself

I, too, would like to know how to keep my hair from parting in the middle?

This is a great hairstyle. It's not just a ponytail, it's a volume pony tail. I do this to mine often for work and I get a lot of compliments. The best way is to not wash your hair the morning you get up to do this, one day dirty is good because you get a little more volume.

The teasing , spray and velcro rollers will keep it from parting in the middle...also as meg says...a little dirty is better..if your hair is too silky ,it's not tacky enough to stay together when it's teased

My Gosh --what to do? I must go and buy some synthetic hair, match it to my hair color as close as possible, and Pretend that its all Mine. Yeap Baby All Mine Mane Babe!!!!!!!!!
How clever!!!!!How come I didn't think of that. Loosers.

I like pony tails, personally! I think she looks very chic, without being overly done. As far as how to do it, and get the volume. I use a root lifter spray, and dry my hair while hanging my head upside down. I think the one day dirty hair is a good thing too....keeps the hair from being overly dry. I think the simple, elegant, longer earrings are a clue to this look too. Look at the details!

She would look good any way she wore her hair, its the face. Nice hair makes a good start though, she has a simple pony tail with the much modern look. I like it.

I agree.....the ugly and rude comments are from the VERY insecure people.....I think Jessica is gorgeous....about hair, mine is extremely oily if I don't wash it everyday....and when I put it in a pony tail it is very slicked back looking and thin....if I wear it down it has this one place where it wants to part all the time.....any suggestions??

My hair's not long enough for a pony tail, but I think that's a cute style if done correctly. Lately I see some girls going a bit crazy with the puffy thing - overdoing it and looking a bit ridiculous, IMO. As far as Jessica Alba goes, let's face it - the girl would be gorgeous in any hairstyle!

There is this great product out called "backcomb in a bottle", which allows you to get the same volume as teasing without the knots. I don't remember the brand, but ask for it at your salon-it works wonders for me!
