American Apparel gets all shiny
Filed under: Fashion, Best of the Season, Designers & Brands
Remember the '80s? I'm not talking about the '80s of Huey Lewis and the News. I'm not talking about the '80s of Cyndi Lauper. I'm not talking about the 1980s of "We Are The World", the US invasion of Grenada or the Falklands War. I'm talking stirrup pants, people.
Suddenly American Apparel is partying like it's 1989 with this stirrup pant. And get this: it's shiny. So not only is AA giving us a blast from the past, they're giving us a flash from the past.

this is gross. if we will think back, there was a reason these quit being in style in the 80's and will more than likely end this time too

Loved them then - would love them now. Including their dressier versions. Very comfortable ---- no creeping (know what I mean?).

As a product of the '80s, I can think of worse fashion trends than the stirrup pant, but they probably are better left back in the 80's along with gravity-defying bangs, Spandex and the huge shoulder pads that left us all looking like triangles.

Oh my god, that's awful! Maybe if you were going to do aerobics or yoga and made sure you covered the stirrup part. But really, you have to have an awesome body like that model to wear those, otherwise most people will look like a shiny sausage.

OH NO! not stirrups! I grew up in the heart of the 80's, and remember wearing these silly pants.. Okay i can see why tunics and big belts are in, and the pointy boots-All Cool!!! But not the stirrups!!! Whose bright idea was it to bring these horrible things back!

I thoroughly enjoyed the stirrup pants because they did not 'creep' up and were so comfortable. I hope they stay in style for a couple of years again, because I will love them again as I did back then.

I loved stirrup pants. My first pair was a green plaid stirrup pant made by Brooke Shields, bought in Marshall Field's. I also bought a black pair. I had a big green sweater to go over the plaid stirrups. I will not be wearing stirrup pants again. They say if you wore it once, you shouldn't wear it again. Good rule.

Yes! I loved stirrup pants! They made my legs look wonderful, and my socks didn't have to match!

I like them. Live in northern Co and they are great under longer length skirts and boots to stay warm. Let's just say that as you step out of a vehicle and the wind sweeps down out of the mountains...well, it could freeze you up for the winter ;)
A good fit is mandatory...should give you a straight line down the hip, narrowing at the anke. Terrific with short boots and a long swishy skirt...do NOT wear them with a shoe that shows the stirrup (tres tacky) we do NOT need visible panty lines nor do we need to see plumber's crack...ladies show some dignity and class..pants/jeans that are too low slung are not sexy...just tacky. Take a really good look at the skin that overflows them since they have to be tight enough not to fall off...and the waistband going across the widest part of your body...take a really serious look from the back....it is not attractive.

These are great to wear with boots that are so instyle right now. They stay in the boots and look cute with a big sweater or something.

I Love the stirrup/Ski Pants (as they were known in even an older generation). They are comfortable and stay neat looking all day. They do not ride up and us "more mature ladies" find them much more figure flattering as the pants do not cling to every little extra bulge we may have. Team them with color co-ordinated dress flats and your set for work & play.

Fashion should be dictated by how it looks on a person and not by whether or not it is in style or not. I personally like the stirrup pants and wear them. If you don't like them, don't wear them. If you look good in something and it feels good, who cares!!!!!
PS # 7 Doug, you are a pig! The big girls at walmart can lose some weight if they choose to. Your ignorance is with you forever.
