If you're a tourist or like to fight cars for parking, crowds for salespeople's attention, and potentially get run over when trying to cross the street, then you can shop on 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica. However, if you're a Westside local and like to find clothes, shoes, accessories and other stuff that aren't your typical Banana Republic/Gap/J. Crew/Pottery Barn things, you should shop along Main Street, which is also in Santa Monica, but a good distance south of the Promenade.

One of the stores on Main Street, Blonde LA, also has an online store, which totally gives off the same kind of vibe that I feel when I'm shopping in the independent boutiques along Main Street. Their online store is quirky and cute, and has a personal feel because there are blogs, videos, editor's picks, and even a "community." If you get a chance, Blonde LA might be a good place to find gifts for the Holidays!
