Designer knockoff perfumes?

Visit any major city in the world, and I guarantee that you will find at least a dozen street vendors selling designer handbag knockoffs. But did you know that fine perfumes also have their share of knockoffs? These "smell-a-likes" create almost exact replications of expensive luxury scents and then sell them at a reduced price under a different name.

I admit, I'm not much of a perfume wearer, so knockoff scents have very little appeal to me. I suppose if I find a scent that I loved, a designer knockoff would probably have more appeal than a fake handbag. Unlike faux Louis Vuitton bags, which I can spot from a mile away, in all likelihood, no one would ever know that I was wearing La Valeur instead of Tresor. (Sorry Lancome!)

What do you think? Knockoff perfumes: yea or nay?
