Top five most pretentious looks of 2006

The style-haters over at Radar Magazine recently announced a list of the top five most pretentious looks of 2006. Because I have such a soft spot for mocking bad fashion (the StyleFoul category was my brainchild), I wanted to make sure that Styledash readers knew about Radar's picks. Here are the top five most pretentious looks of 2006:
1. Fingerless gloves
2. Oversized headphones
3. Cardigans worn over the shoulder
4. Sunglasses worn inside
5. House of Holland t-shirts
While many of these trends haven't quite reached the mid-Atlantic, I certainly agree with Radar's assessment of the fingerless gloves and the oversized headphones.
I do take issue with the sunglasses inside point -- wearing shades inside doesn't necessarily imply pretentious airs. After all, people do get their eyes dilated every so often. And my mother -- who happens to be a chronic sunglasses inside violator -- claims that she simply forgets that she is wearing shades in the first place. Radar should really have taken into account medical necessity and personal flakiness when they dubbed sunglasses inside as pretentious.
What do you think is the most pretentious style of 2006?

Add those below-the-hips pants/jeans etc to the "Style Best Forgotten." Most of those were so low, they were embarassing.

Stop wearing those studded or non-studded ballet slippers. For those who have a prominent arch and high instep, shouldn't wear those. There is no arch support and they slip off your feet. Not a good shoe to wear at all. Everybody and their mother has a pair, be different, that style should be the last for this year.

I disagree with the above comment about below the hip jeans/ pants. They look fine as long on the right person. They should be outlawed for overweight women. Look in the mirror before wearing them, no one needs to see your gut.

What's wrong with the large headphones....they're much more confortable than the little ear buds....plus they double as ear muffs in the cold!

Let's get rid of the anorexic models as recommended by Spain and Milan....I think the likes of Catherine Zeta-Jones and the late Marilyn Monroe are/were much sexier that these sticks........plus, it is not helping younger girls with their self-image.

Amen Ken!!!!!!! What a women is thinking when she trys to stuff her gut and butt into those kinds of pants is beyond me, and I why should I have to see the end result? Mothers out there, teach your daughters the same thing! If they have more to show than needs to be seen, help them pick the proper size and style!

I'm with you on the women's butt crack thing... DO NOT need to see that even if you're skinny. And I don't care to see your g-string or thong underwear poking out, either. Do guys dig that or something? I think it's just plain distasteful.

Any kind of technology worn as an accessory in public--cell phone earpieces, MP3s, Blackberries, Ipods, any of their clones or any kind of music device. It does not impress the onlooker, but rather gives the distinct and uncomfortable appearance of illness, as one being attached to a portable oxygen unit. It does NOT broadcast importance and wealth; instead it merely says "I am self-centered and I am not good with people. I do not give a rip about anybody but myself." People talking in public while wearing those ear pieces look like folks wandering down a Psych. ward hallway. They don't look important at all, but pitiful...and a little scary.

Could we please burn all those FAKE LV bags? I won't carry my real one after driving home one day and seeing three maids sitting on the bus bench and all three had a fake one.

I have to agree--GET RID OF THE SKINNY JEANS!!!!!Unless they're a skeleton , no one can wear them. WHAT are House of Holland t-shirts? I don't even think I've seen them on tv. Big headphones are much more comfortable than earbuds and I really don't see them as a fashion statement. Have alot of people been wearing fingerless gloves???? I think I missed that one too.

I am so sick of seeing the puffy jackets with the nasty faux fur trim! The oversized sunglasses must go, as well as the velour track pant/hoodie set that just WILL NOT DIE. I agree with Tracy, never heard of House of Holland. As for the low-rise jeans, keep them on the skinny girls only. If I never see a "muffin top" again, It'll be too soon.
P.S. Skinny jeans are stupid and look horrible, even on great bodies.

I wear sunglasses inside sometimes too. I have a chronic disease which makes my eyes somewhat light sensitive and the sunglasses are a help and a comfort. However when I talk to someone I try to remember to take them off, especially since my eyes are my best feature (other than the sensitivity)!
