Celebrity Style: Adopting international babies
Filed under: CELEBRITY STYLE, Celebrity, News
Let's get one thing straight: I respect people who adopt. With the number of orphaned children in the world, anyone who opens their home to a child who would otherwise go parent-less deserves my unlimited praise. That having been said, I'm a little tired of the high-profile celebrity adoption. When Angelina Jolie adopted little Maddox and later Zahara, I think we all felt that it was a bold, generous move on her part.
But then there was the whole Madonna adoption debacle, which somehow seemed less like an act of love and more like a publicity stunt shrouded in the halo of self-righteousness. Be that as it may, I'm sure that the Material Girl will be a great mother to little David, so I can't really say that her decision to adopt was a bad one.
However, when Britney Spears decides that she wants to get in on the international adoption scene, I have to put my foot down. In the coming year, Spears plans to adopt a four-year-old child who was orphaned in the 2004 tsunami. If she does, little Wang will become her third child, two of which were from her now-defunct relationship with Kevin Federline.
Now I really don't want to be a hater, but doesn't it seem a little too coincidental that Britney suddenly decides to shape up at the exact moment when her fans seem to have run out of patience for her post-divorce, Paris Hilton hijinks?

Doesn't this sound alot like the phase that all of hollywood went through a couple of years ago where everyone had to have a little puppy to carry around with them in a purse.........Tinkerbell for instance......when is someone going to say enough and give the rest of the country a break........You make these people think they can get away with anything and so they do.......a child is not some toy or new acessory to carry around to show off.....are they gonna buy little rhinestone collars to put on their necks and carry them around in designer bags........this is just sickening

So why don't you all just adopt a child that is in need and quit putting down others for doing so put your foot in mouth and another thing David is fortunate yes but his new family are all fortunate to have david also

It does seem like a fad - celebrities adopting. But, no matter how you digest that, the child benefits in the long run. However, why the celebs have to go out/of/the/country to find an adoptable child is beyond me. We've got so many parentless kids right here in the USA that need the permanent bonding and love of someone. Maybe these children's life stories are not 'dramatic' enough for the celebs, who knows?

these countries should have stricter rules. i'm sure they're selling babies to pediphiles. and some of these stars don't take care of their own children, let alone having another one added to the scene just so they can get their names in the paper again. i find it to be a crime.

Brittani has proved what a slut she is by exposing herself in public. If she is so interested in her children why doesn't she stay home with the two she has instead of hanging out and drinking, etc. with the slut of all time Paris Hilton. I think the woman is fried.
I can believe that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt truly love and care for the children they have or will have and are doing it for the right reasons. Now for Madonna, the old girl is getting old and needs something to have people remember her.

I agree with chica we have 1000's of kids right here who need a loving parent whos future looks bleak --why not help a child right here at home??? Then again I think the people in Hollowood are in some little play world they dont know what reality is. They are so above and beyond the real world, so yeah if it makes them look good to go to another country to adopt a child and will get them publicity and keep their faces in the news then I think thats all that really matters to them.As far as Brittney Spears adopting well you gotta be kidding me!! She has already shown how good a mom she can be.

well, since 2 children seem to be enough to pauwn off on a nanny why not 3? or 4 for that matter... Seems to me as if she mind the expense of raising children since she has no hand in it! The way she was raised in the public eye all these years, she hasn't yet grown herself, just another new toy for her to play with. When she gets tired of this new baby. it's off to the nanny, and lest we forget.. boarding school!
Maybe she should spend less time with Paris Hilton and more with her children...

I disagree about "why not adopt a child here?" We looked into it and basically were told by county social workers that the kids have real issues that we as adults in the mainstream are not prepared to deal with. Our wait would be up to 3 years and if we move from the county you have to start all over again. And unwed mothers? The wait for a newborn is ridiculous and you are paraded around for inspection and pleding to be picked only never to be chosen. Then you have the legal issues, that a bio parent or boyfriend can come back at any time at sue you for custody and take the child back. Are you ready for those get wrenching experiences? Is is far from easy to go through the process unless you've been there. I have been there.

Brittney Spears is a fantastic mom, I will buy her parenting book when it comes out. Paris is writing the foreword and it should be very informational on child behavior interspaced with advice on lingerie, how to handle your high, and various other tips that we all should know.

I agree, Britney Spears has gone too far! SHe has shown her true colors and nothing will bring her bak even if she adopts a child right now. She should act like a mother instead of running around without undergarments. She is not a good role model for children or young mothers in America. Lets see she married a guy (loser)who dumped his wife and two kids for her and now the shoe is on the other foot but do you see his ex-wife acting like a wild child? I could say alot of facts like Donald Trump with Rosie but I won't go there because I am a mother who believes in teaching your children self respect, dignity and moraity!!!!

>>Maybe this ugly little trend is endorsed by PR people because there is so little talent and too many "flavor of the month" celebs, too many in the press find it easier to be gossip columnists than journalist, and people's attention spans seem at an all time low. The Hollywood machine rewards no/low talent overblown egos with big bucks (which we pay for in higher ticket and magazine prices, by the way) and encourages them to keep their names out there whether by adoption or self-starvation and partying. To them, it's all part of the same means to an end. Children have become accessories. Do they really "benefit," as mentioned above? Meals and a bed, and all the amenities of being rich can't replace REAL parenting which involves love, commitment and a lot of hard work, among other things. The things jet-setting, multiple nannies and bodyguards aren't always vested in, because in a couple years they'll be kowtowing to some other overpaid demanding "famous" one. How many of these kids will spend years in psychotherapy, estranged from parents or the subject of an entertainment show whine session? If the public doesn't wake up and stop buying and looking, things will stay the same or get worse.

If it's a new trend then I hope it really catches on! I hope all of the Hollywood sheep adopt children in need! At least with this "fad" they are helping others besides themselves! In the long run these children will be given a chance for a life they could have only dreamed of.
I agree though that there so many children in need right here in our country, why does everyone have to leave the country to adopt?
I guess a "tsunami orphan" is more newsworthy!

This is just sad. She can't even stay home long enough to take care of the two she has now with all her partying. If this was an unfamous person doing the same thing theres no way the adoption would be approved.

Adoption...humm Rosie adopted because she truely wants and loves children,I believe Anjoli & Madonna do also, it does not matter where a child is adopted from as long as the reason is to love and help this child. But Britney please!, she should have stuck to her dogs, what go's around comes around. I have more respect for K-feds ex than Britney, she sure has more class.Final thought, Rosie and Kelli will have happier and more adjusted kids than most heto families. May be we should all learn from her on what a family means.

Adopting a child in America can get so bogged down by the system that often people have to go abroad to be successful in an adoption. Sometimes people don't want to deal with the hassle. Maybe America should re-evaluate it's policies so our own orphaned children could enjoy a home. We only tend to hear about the beginning of an adoption rare that we get to see how it turns out for the child. Few have the notiriety that Brad and Angelina have that cause nearly daily news reports. So for any of us to make a truly wise opinion about such adoptions is obviously without fact. With fame and money also comes stife and a less than realistic view on life. Money can go as fast as it comes and it does little to comfort our physical need for love and connection to family. My prayer is that the child get a sound family life and learn to disregard the trappings of wealth.

I am all for the children, but COME ON...Sharon, you live in some kind of Twilight Zone where all Celebs are good people...you should seek a good therapist. This is FAR from being about helping a deserving child and ALL about damage control for living an innappropriate, immoral lifestyle. If they really want to make a difference, why not send some of the millions of dollars they spend on drunken partying, designer bottled water and trashy clothes they only wear once to the countries in need and help thousands of people instead of just one? At least then their publicists will have something meaningful to give US back for the fame and fortune we have given these yahoos.
