Color-coordinate with personalized Nike shoes
Filed under: Accessories, Fashion, Stylish Living
Nike has introduced a way to have seriously unique shoes. With their Nike iD Website, you can pick a shoe design, pick the colors for almost every aspect of it, have a short message embroidered on the heel, and then have them shipped to your doorstep. They certainly aren't cheap though -- for many of the shoes, the customized editions will run you $150; however, some are in the low $100 range. There's a big selection of men's and women's shoes on the site, so everyone can match their shoes to their outfits or their iPod (as Nike's site suggests). I think it's a cool idea, as it provides a way to spruce up the common tennis/running/soccer/football shoe by picking your own color combinations. But, as I came to find out, it can be very easy to design a very, very ugly pair of shoes. And I'm not sure I would rely on an online image for ordering an expensive pair of tennis shoes!
What first interested me about the custom Nike shoes was the option to customize Air Max shoe designs from past generations. You can choose shoe models from '90, '91, '93, '95, and '97. So, if you missed out on a certain pair of shoes from the 90's, here's your chance to redeem yourself.

There's no reason to be scared of the colors unless your monitor settings are off. I own six pairs of custom Nike's, and they all are pretty darn close to what I saw on my screen.
The price is high, but not much higher than what you would pay in a store. The premium is worth it for the customization.
I'm a professional in the fitness industry so I go through many pairs of shoes. Good shoes are a necessity, and these are by far the best I've worn. Worth every penny! (And I get compliments with each pair!)
Here's a tip: If you don't know (or can't visualize) what some of the colors are, go to any store that sells Nike workout gear and see for them yourself.

This is really cool. It's about time something like this came out. All wanna-be designers now have a way to be creative!

PLEASE BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL NIKE AIRLINERS FOR WOMEN. THE NEW ONES ARE NOT COMFORTABLE. ALL THE STORES SAY WOMEN ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE NEW STYLE

Yeah, this is a nice idea....however Converse has been doing it for quite some time now...Nike isn't breaking any new ground here...I bought a pair of customized Converse High Tops (Chuck Taylors) over a year and a half ago for a friend of mine.

Whats up with this. Nike has been doing this for years and Converse does this as well. I guess Nikes marketing department wanted to sell some more shoes so they tossed some money (or a few pairs of shoes) around and got some e-press.

What if you order them and then they don't fit right? Sometimes sizes can vary.

I ordered a pair for my husband and for myself to match our NFL football team. Nike was great to deal with, the web site is easy to use, customer service was first rate, I called to make sure they were going to arrive for Christmas, and was told where they were in the production process (in China) and when they would be shipped. The shoes are great, arrived when promised in a upscale box and shoe bag. As a gift they were unique, personal and fun. The cost, $114 per pair ( I ordered the shocks). If only our team looked as good as my shoes !!!!!

I need help! I want to design the old style shoe that Forrest Gump wore in the movie, the white leather with red swoosh and blue wedge in the heel. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

this is funny, I have some random story related to Nike ID ... a huge email campaign was actually triggered by a man who attempted to personalize his own shoes with the word "sweatshop" on the heel. Obviously Nike rejected his request for the shoes, but it was funny because the word did not violate any part of Nike's legal terms (even though they claimed it was 'inappropriate' under their rule against profanity) I wish I could provide details as to when this happened, but the man successfully forwarded the email to thousands and had his own mini-national campain.
