Bodymetrics, a quest for the perfect jean

Imagine for a moment, the lure of the perfect fit. Of never having to wonder if the new jeans you ordered in your usual size will be too big, too small or just right. That's the appeal of Bodymetrics, a system that scans your body to make a perfect 3D computer copy of you. From there, the folks at Bodymetrics can create your perfect jeans. A recent article in the IHT breaks down the process. The Bodymetrics system uses a futuristic space pod, you step in and 200 different personal dimension points are calculated. The measurements are turned into a 2D pattern. It's tailoring on a uniquely personal level.

So far the Bodymetrics boutiques are only available in Selfridges and Harrod's in England. While other brands including Levi Strauss have offered similar products, the Bodymetrics jeans offer more options. They also cost more $482 per pair. The plan for the company is to eventually be able to use the Bodymetrics measurements with a variety of companies especially with online fashion companies. As much as I dread the horror of seeing my form rendered in 3D on a computer, I would so love to never have to wrestle my hard-to-fit form (smallish waist, giant behind) into an unfamiliar pair of jeans ever again. Not to mention never having to think of myself in terms of a size and all the self censure that entails.

Now that would be bliss.

The price of a designer handbag sometimes costs more than a monthly mortgage payment--and, there are those who couldn't care less about maxing out their credit cards to own a Hermes, Louis V or Prada. So, in prospective $400 plus for a perfect pair of jeans would seem dirt cheap in comparison to the $2,000 plus bag crowd. However, it is tempting to make this investment and not go through the hassle of trying on 20 pairs of jeans, and still not be able to find a pair that fits, whether you're paying $25 or $200 retail. Umm, when did you say they were opening a store in the States?

Sounds great....if your weight doesnt fluctuate. Imagine you get perfectly fitted when you weight 110 pounds then happen to gain a few pounds...then what? There goes your 400+ dollars....anyway I do not see this as being very realistic. As with anything else though people will not care and will rush out to buy this.

I hate the style,I wish they would bring back the old style .I like a jean that fits good and looks good .jeans that fits tiet around the waist and wide leg i hait that style.

I'm sorry, but the price you have to pay for these are outrageous. Am I the only one that feels they're totally unaffordable? I think buyers are being manipulated and I'm sick ofit.

I have been thin my whole life, until 2 years ago when an accident caused me to have severe back pain and left me unable to move around. I loved how jeans looked on me when I was thin, but now that I am a size 14/16 forget it! I cant find any that look good on my now bigger body.... I would love to design my own to fit me. Also I am shocked at how many of the people who write on these comments do NOT know how to spell!!!! What has happened to the world when adults cannot spell tight (tiet) and hate (hait)???? I can understand mistakes, but I can tell when a person makes a mistake and just doesn't know how to spell a word........

I would love to be able to buy a pair of these jeans!!!!! I border on petite and I'm a little overweight. I have a hard time finding a pair of stylish jeans that flatter me. I end up looking like I'm just as wide as I'm tall. The legs are usually too long. I agree w/ the posting that people might pay much more for a handbag or shoes. Go figure! To my way of thinking you would get much more wear out of the jeans anyway.

I truley hate all the jeans out now. I want regular cotton jeans with NO spndex. I hate it. The price for those "perfect" jeans is absurd. How about jeans made for a female body and not a boys body. Most of us are built like females, because we are.

I think they should make a jean that doesnt show ur underwear, a little higher waste, not to high ,and softer and all one color, andno stretch material in it.....also aforable for everyone....lets be real someone is making lots and lots of money,,,and it isn't the people sewing them...

How about us over 40 gals who still want to look gooood but not be forced to wear skinny things that accentuate every ounce of cellulite and bulge below the navel! I've still got the figure, but my proportionate numbers are a little bigger than they used to be! I would love something made just for me - I'd like the price to be a little more in my ballpark though!! I also think to pay that kind of price on a pair of jeans is more worthwhile than splurging on a purse that will be out of style a lot quicker.

If this technology were to come in to wide spread use and the price dropped to even say $150.00 or so a pair, I would consider it as important as a well fitting pair of designer pants and would pay the cost considering it would be an important part of my wardrobe.

If the company can achieve that price point they will be in our pants in a big way...so to speak.

Also, to you, Blondie - those who can't or refuse to spell accurately msut surely be proud of their ignorance. Sad, isn't it?

First of all...to me the jeans in the picture are ugly and too tight. I would never pay "any" price for these jeans! Next...this comment section is for "all" people..not just the ones that can spell correctly.I give all the people that took the time to give their comments a lot of credit no matter how they said it!

The price would be right for those women who don't fit the mold. A well fitting pair of jeans can make a woman of any size feel like a million dollars. I think it's great!!!!

As for the spelling errors -- it's just sad. Unfortunately, people who can't spell are judged, especially in the workplace. It's more a reflection on the education system than on the individual, though, and that is what is really sad.

The following is the opinion (with facts thrown in for reference) of one woman - yours may differ.)
The price of those jeans relegates them immediately to the realm of either the truly wealthy - with more dollars than sense (pun) - or to those less wealthy who have no idea of the value of a dollar or know how to set priorities. Almost $500 for ONE pair of jeans for the "masses" is so completely insane, there aren't proper words to describe it.
As one example of something more within reach of many of the rest of us, QVC now offers a quality custom-made pair of jeans for under $50, and all the information they require to produce them should make them as much of a custom fit as they need to be.
For the short ladies, there are many ranges of petite sizing in many different manufacturers available - make sure you investigate them thoroughly before you decide that there's nothing out there to fit you. Take your measurements with you when you shop - either in writing or in your head, and shop for fit - not for the number on the tag.
The sizing ranges have changed SO much over the years, where I used to require Tall jeans (when I could get them) to get the length I needed, now I'm starting to look at the Petite ranges myself! And all without the loss of height! There was a time (back in the Dark Ages) when NO jeans were long enough - now a lot of them, including the Average length, are too long! And, if the manufacturers would stop playing around with the "vanity" sizing concept (a 10 several years ago is now a 6, etc.), maybe we ALL could find off the rack clothes to fit us, no matter how we are built.
This item may sell in large quantities to the general public in Great Britain - I seriously doubt it though, at least for now. The market itself will determine how successful it is, and the price will be affected by the future mass production of the technology it takes to produce them. Remember the most basic calculators for over $100 (I still have my original Casio, which was a gift!)Now you can pick them up for a dollar - same thing applies with the jeans, but in proportion....

I think everyone should own a perfect pair of jeans. Even though $400+ dollars for a pair of jeans seems a bit much, it is so worth it when you feel good in your jeans and look great as well. Jeans are so in now that will get your money back from wearing them so much! Investing your money to in something that is going to make you feel good is so worth it. Its like buying that expensive purse- wouldn't you rather have one good bag then a couple of cheap ones!
