Did you know there is no J.C Penney in Manhattan? That's set to change as the department store which is in just about every mall in America will open a 150,000 sq ft flagship store in the Manhattan Mall, a development near the Macy's department store on Herald Square. The area is already home to other mainstream retailers such as Victoria's Secret, Zara and H&M. There is a JC Penney in Queens but this is the first ever Manhattan store. The retailer did open up a pop-up store in Times Square last year.

JC Penney has been raising the profile of their store with a variety of partnerships. Designer Nicole Miller sells an exclusive line at the store and Sephora now has opened mini stores inside the JC Penney stores. Polo Ralph Lauren will also sell exclusive private label apparel and home goods in 2008 under the name American Living.
