Skater fashion returns

Filed under: Accessories, Fashion, Stylish Living

With the return of the 90s and grunge as a major influence on fashion, it was inevitable that we'd eventually re-visit an alternative sport that also rose to prominence in that decade: skateboarding. Not that the sport hadn't been around for years before that, or that phat flip tricks are going to start showing up on runways anytime soon, but the laid-back, roughed-up, tongue-in-cheek attitude of skateboarding culture started to creep into mainstream fashion about that time, and I have a feeling it's on it's way back.

Take these shoes by Mark Gonzalez, a professional skateboarder and artist. I love the chunky, slip-on style ala unlaced Vans (without the laces), simple graphics and lime green. I never would've picked that color for a pair of shoes, but here I think it totally works.

So, while you shouldn't feel obligated to get your old deck out of storage, it might be time to embrace your more youthful fashion choices.
