Want some drugs with that fashion?
Sisley is known for making some really racy ads, (to me their ads are more memorable than their clothing) but has this ad gone too far? The Fashion Junkie campaign shows two lovely models indulging in some recreational "fashion." The "fashion" is a slinky white dress that is supposed to represent a pile of cocaine.
Snort, snort -- isn't fashion fun?
I can't say I am shocked or even horrified by this ad (the ad kinda made me chuckle) because drugs have had such an influence on our culture lately. Celebrities waltzing in and out of rehab, drug- and alcohol-induced car wrecks, top models like Kate Moss being involved in various drug scandals -- if this ad was of models snorting lines off Pete Doherty, then I would be scared.
Love or hate it, this ad still isn't selling clothes (at least not to me). I can't really tell what they have on. I can tell, however, that the one on the left has her nipple hanging out and the one on the right is is about to overdose (look at those eyes). Scary.

Just read your "thoughts" on J. Love and wanted to call you an idiot over here on this blog as well.

The slinky white dress is actually a slinky white dress laid out to resemble cocaine - there's no powder in the ad. As a Fashion Marketing student, I think the premise is clever - whether or not it's appropriate is an entirely different topic.
Benetton (who owns Sisley) has also come forward to claim that the ads are fake, so it might be a good idea to add that info to this blog entry.

Benetton started this crap with their "clever" ads, and this just takes the sludge down to a new level in the sewer.

Yeah, nice comment needjewaske. People like you say Lauren Messiah shouldn't have anything negative to say, and yet, if she should say something that people disagree with, they call her vile names that are a lot worse than anything she writes.
Reality check:
1. Being overweight is not any "healthier" than being underweight. If it is, why is the medical community screaming about the "obesity epidemic" in this country?
2. Normal doesn't necessarily mean "heavy". I'm friends with and brother to plenty of women who aren't "heavy" or "curvy" and trust me, they're all "normal" and "real". They just happen to take care of themselves and stay in shape.
3. This is a fashion blog. That means there's good and bad. The same heifers screaming about "obesity discrimination" sit and paste plenty of crap about women who maintain a thin figure. It's ok to trash "skinny" women, but not "heavy" women?
4. This is still a free country. It's also a country where we have done our best to accept mediocrity. We try to normalize what we are to damned lazy to fix.
5. Part of what gives celebrities "fame" is their looks. They stay on top by mixing talent with appearance. After all, they're the Beautiful People, remember? So if we have to worship them when they look their best, why can't we knock them a little when they don't?
Take a break.

Completely inappropriate and disturbing as hell. The look on the model on the right is just horrible. My husband almost overdosed a few years ago (and is fine now, thank God), and I really wouldn't need an ad like this to take me back to that time.

This ad is a comment on how screwed up our society really is. It would be in poor taste if they kicking back and downing a 5th of vodka also. Trashy is one of the best words that I can think of when I see an ad of this type.

When were trying to create a drug free American, seeing ads like the one here are very disturbing, what are they telling our young ones, "thats its ok because famous models are seen acting out a coke snorting scene" come one, wake up advertizers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG! I can't believe what I am seeing. One comment said, "there is no powder in this ad." Uhm, look again. It's to the left of the dress in a little baggie. Subtle, huh?
What's next? A line of sweats and no skid socks called "ReHab?" (For the fashion concious junkie, only ReHab will do. Recover in comfort AND style.)

I think with the state of our youth and people dealing with drug problems, it is highly irresponsible to glamorize or refer to the practice of it in any way. We need to be held responsible for what we stand for and represent. They are accountable for what they incenuate.

hmmm, can use cocaine in an ad, but can't say prayers in school. This country is getting worse by the minute. Put GOD back in our lives, schools, work place, sports, etc and see how amazing HE can make our country again. This ad, and so many others, are so disturbing and giving mixed signals to our children about morals, drugs, smoking, sex . SO DISGUSTING

I think the ad is in very poor taste. It sends the wrong message. Drug abuse and addiction are serious matters. Sick to use as ad fodder no matter what the intention. Looks like a desparate grab for attention...very sad.

This ad associates being thin/beautiful with doing drugs. I don't think the ad is meant to make fun of the current celebrity rehab trend either... It has no element of humour.
And while, yes, it may be a "clever" idea--those who idolize these "Beautiful People" (see previous post by Big Cup) may get a secondary and unethical message: be thin & beautiful by any means.

I have to agree with Kathleen Parry with her statement that you can't mention God in school, but this ad can be viewed by kids.
The ad is totally inappropriate, but it is generating the publicity they want.
Honestly, does anyone remember the name of the clothing line?

It's an ad, get the hell over it. Wahhhh, drug free America, wahhhh fat people, no one cares, America is full of drugies and is the most obese country in the world, not suprising since most Americans do absolutely nothing but sit on our asses all day.

I'm not sure which is LEAST appealing.....the skanky, wasted, skinny models.....or the idea of buying a dress that makes your lady look like the COKE QUEEN.
