Marco Zanini has some big shoes to fill

If you are like me you probably haven't heard of Italian designer Marco Zanini, but you will be hearing a lot about him soon. Zanini, who was the head designer of womenswear, ready-to-wear and haute couture at Versace has been given the much coveted gig as the creative director at the new Halston. The label was bought by movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, who as we previously mentioned, put Jimmy Choo diva Tamara Mellon and infamous stylist Rachel Zoe on his creative advisory team. Zanini gushed to WWD that his new job is a dream come true. Zanini has to move from Milan to New York and will start work in September.

It's not a bad choice, Zanini has probably learned a lot about the art of the flash both at Versace and at his previous job at Dolce and Gabbana. Still, I would have rather have seen an American get the job, if only because the story of Halston himself , of a Midwestern boy with big dreams who changed the world of design, was such an American tale.
