Styles that stick: The mullet
Filed under: Hair Care, Fashion, Hair, Celebrity, Designers & Brands, Hot or Not
One of the most unfortunate styles to stick is the dreadful mullet. It's right up there with mom jeans, I believe. Unfortunately, this blasted hairstyle has managed to sneakily elude extinction because of its super-morphing abilities. That is the most dangerous aspect of the mullet and one of the main reasons why so many have fallen victim to it.In the '70s, the look was popularized by David Bowie, who wore it totally glammed up as Ziggy Stardust, and in the '80s, the likes of MacGyver wore the cut big and loose. These days, it's popular with pretentious teen hipsters, who often wear the mullet straightened, spiky, and poorly bleached. They call it the "fashion mullet," but we all know that the addition of "fashion" in the term is doing nothing for it, don't we? These chameleon-like qualities of the hairstyle have allowed the mullet to coast freely through the decades, poisoning the heads of those who are too weak to resist it ... or those who have accidentally taken a little too much off the bangs.
Even worse, there are those who feel the need to get a little, uh, creative with the mullet. That's where the skullet, frullet, and ever-terrible Jheri Curl mullet come in. Click here and witness this horror, if you dare.

Why are people stupid or weak enough to let other people tell them how to wear there hair ,clothes or anything else. Everyones perception is different. Its all materialism, desiners and mfgs. want to make more money telling you have to conform. BE BRAVE where what you like ! What happen to indivdulism? Like who is Joan Rivers to tell anyone anything about what they wear. Weze

Louise may make some good points, but bad spelling and grammar take away from any message she's trying to communicate.

OK, so I'm a Baby Boomer, born in 1951, and partying hard in the early 1970s, but I must admit that as a woman, I always found the mullet to be a sexy look on guys!

Dear Ms. Wu,
Maybe if you had a semblance of a life you wouldn't spend so much time on the "dangerous effects" of a hairstyle from decades past. Instead, maybe you could do something genuinely productive, as opposed to perpetuating the self absorbed, shallow state of our society.

Louise, you and your ilk are pricks. You knew the message wouldn't be "just be yourself." If that were the message, this blog would require one post. What would be the point? Obviously the author, attempting to represent the fashion world, is going to discuss what people "in the know" think should and should not be worn. Stop being a complete douche. You've added nothing to the discussion. And grammar trolls are insecure, stupid f*cks who think they can convince others to change the way they post by adding their comments, despite overwhelming evidence that such nonsense is completely ineffective. F*ck you! You are not nearly as smart as you think you are. Is your self-esteem so low that you must resort to propping it up by adding your pretentious comments to these blogs? Now go ahead and jump all over me for this post...
I've never heard of a hispster mullet. Sounds pretty lame. lol I guess I'm just not cool enough for that. Is that what Billy Ray Cyrus would wear if he started a punk band?

i'm 64 and have been wearing what turns out to be called a mullet since forever because it was the only way i could cut my own hair by looking in the mirror and cutting what i could see of the top and sides. haven't had a tv for thirty years or so and have no idea who these people are you refer to, other than david bowie.

I agree with slawdog. This is America! Learn to read and write properly. You're an embarrassment to our culture with writing like that! Go back to school!
