ive been wearing pink panties since i was 13, because i like them, and im a boy, granted i have few blue pairs as well. so ya can't always say girls prefer pink, and boys blue.

I have a 2 1/2 year old. Before she was born I told my wife and everyone in the family -- no pink clothes for my little girl please. Well, first of all, since we get tons of hand-me down clothes from friends and relatives, I would say at least 75% of the clothes you get are pink. And Jonathon, my daughter also proclaimed here favorite color as pink -- she wants to the pink clothes (matching only, of course), the pink lotion, the pink yogurt and the pink ice cream. Neither my wife nor I are into shopping or fashion, but if this little girl sees a pink purse... watch out!

This is junk science at its finest, and the media does it's best to distort the truth so as to create the biggest headline. If you actually read the research, the women tested were more likely to chose the color pink, whereas men didn't care as much for color. They didn't say that EVERY woman chose pink, but just that more women then men picked it. The "scientists" have no way to prove WHY they are likely to chose pink. They try to explain every single human behavior in terms of biology and evolution, which is so ignorant that I can't believe they call this crap "research." What these geniuses seem to forget is the effect of culture. We TEACH girls from birth that they are to love the color pink. But not all of them will claim it to be their favorite color, I certainly never did, nor any of my friends. This is like saying that research shows women are more likely to wear dresses than men. Is it biological? Of course not. Our society creates the "rule" that only girls can wear dresses. Kids learn really early on the rules of their gender, even before they can speak. They learn that boys don't cry and only girls can wear dresses. They pick up on all the cues that parents and society give them, and it's unconcious most of the time, parents don't always realize they treat their daughters and sons differently.
Like I said, they did not PROVE that it is biological, they are only making assumptions. They said stupid things like, "thousands of years ago it could have helped women pick out red fruit." First off, red is totally different from pink, even men like red (aka sports cars). Secondly, not all red fruit is non-poisonous. All it takes a little common sense to see the flaws of their conclusions. Dumb scientists make the mistake of assuming everything results from our biology, and they consistently deny the influence of culture. Is pink the favorite of women in the whole world, and has it been throughout all history? And the newest scientific research is proving that our brain constantly changes, that to think we are merely "hard-wired" for all our actions is a false, older way of thinking. We change and respond to the environment around us. (There was an article in Newsweek about this over a month ago.) That's how genes function, by responding to the cues given to them. But you'd actually know that if you had even a small understanding of genetics, and you certainly won't get your info by listening to the media's spin and bias everytime they talk about "scientific" research. They are not trained to interpret scientific literature, they merely know how to create an attention-grabbing headline, even if it means spinning the truth. The title of this blog is so ignorant and completely not-thought out. If you read the article instead of forming your own uninformed opinion, you'd see that even these "scientists" haven't proven conclusively what is basically an (un)educated guess.

We don't need to ask ourselves that question when we go shopping because we are not robots programmed to only respond according to hard wiring in our brains. We are influenced by the world around us, and while many young girls prefer pink in childhood, that tends to change as we get older. We aren't slaves to our brain wiring. We have the ability to adapt and think.
