Goodbye Metrosexual, Hello 'Menergy'
Filed under: CELEBRITY STYLE, Fashion, Celebrity, News, Runway Report, Stylish Living
Metrosexuality is so five minutes ago; today it's all about "menergy." Right now the days of men taking more time in the bathroom and dressing better than women are over. These days the testosterone meter is set on high and the 'man's-man' is here to stay.
Last month, The New York Times' Horacio Silva used the term "menergy" to describe the "anti-metrosexual, hyper-masculine" energy that was circulating throughout Milan Fashion Week during the menswear segments.
It appears that the "menergy" that was flowing through Fashion Week has worked its way over to Hollywood. George Clooney has ditched his clean shaved face for a scruffier salt-and-pepper whisker look. Super-hottie Benicio Del Toro has put his razor away too. The actor showed off a bearded mug on the cover of Esquire's October issue.
Fashion pro Robert Verdi says, "[it's] a return to real men." Amen to that Robert! I am sick of seeing men sitting next me to at the nail salon. What do you all think, do you like your men 'manly' or properly groomed in a metrosexual way?
Check out our gallery of stars with "menergy" here:

REAL MEN SHOULD BE HAIRY AND MACHO.
REAL MEN DO NOT CRY AND ACT LIKE A FAG.
REAL MEN ARE AGGRESSIVE AND STRONG AND CAN HANDLE HIMSELF IN A FIGHT. A SISSY FAGGY GUY IS ASKING TO BE BEATEN UP BY MY BULKY HAIRY ARM.
REAL WOMEN LIKE BIG HAIRY REAL MEN NOT SKINNY SISSIES. REAL MEN SHOULD BE MACHO AND TUFF.
REAL WOMEN SHOULD WEAR SKIRTS AND BELONGS IN THE KITCHEN.

I think in the backward-minded society/culture of certain countries where guys are expect to adhere strictly to a certain unspoken code of machismo, where guys do not have the freedom to dress the way they like, guys should avoid wearing tight jeans, have long hair or trim their eyebows or risk being verbally or even physically bullied by other big square-faced thick-jaw bulky-hairy-macho gorilla-like jocks with too much smelly testosterones.
In many developed East-Asian cities, things are quite the opposite, where Androgynous looking guys who retains their youthful look pass 20++ are considered hot, and plentiful (probably due to sexual-selection by the females over a few generations?). Just look at popular icons such as the lead singer of Flumpool, Miyavi, Kim Hye-sung, Fahrenheit, Lee Joon Ki, or Jae Joon, and many more. For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aj_lF5ZT8gU

OMG what I wouldn't give for my man to be metro-sexual again. I used to tease him about it, and how he spent more time in the bathroom than I did. These days, since he's working from home, he doesn't shower/shave for days on end. GIVE ME my primping, preening, pretty man again!

Thank god! men put the tweezers away. Something about a man that plucks his eyebrows and gets manicures is a BIG turnoff to me. Cleanliness and good hygiene, nice teeth a must. Manly men definetly better!

Wonderful news! No one is sexier than George Clooney and his "type" PPierce Brosnan, others). I applaud the "movement" and hope it sticks!

As in all things, moderation is best. Guys who go overboard, like women who over do it, are generally screwed up in other ways as well. They all tend to be a bit to high maintenance for me... and insecure.

Please! What could possible be better? Ugly and smelly or clean and together?? A man can be a man without looking like a slob and smelling like garbage. Going around looking like you just got out of the gutter is a complete turn-off and is definitely a loser image. And forget romance, no one wants to get close to an overly hairy and smelly creature! Men, use your "energy" and testosterome to be the best you can be for yourself and for all others! Especially for the women!

The only problem here is that those who invent the terminology tend to be men who really like men. So, i don't hink their opinion can really be counted as a barometer of what men are.

This is tacky news. Scruffy bears are not sexy. A
salt and pepper beard is just a MESS. George
Clooney is anything but sexy. He is Mr. Grizzly
Adams, uck! Clooney is PUDGY and Out of Shape.

Metrosexual will always reign supreme in the big cities.
Scruffy and ugly and fat is out.

As always, there has got to be a balance, a middle ground. Ladies, we risk telling our guys that if facial hair is now back in and we don't like groomed men, they may swing the pendulum so far to the left and become cavemen. He can have some rough-and-readiness and still brush his teeth, clean his nails, iron his shirt, polish his shoes and wear clean underwear. I like 'em smelling good!

I would love for my husband to be just a bit 'metrosexual'. He doesn't shave, brush his teeth, or do any grooming!! He will wear the same t-shirt and ratty shorts for days on end....even has food stains on the shirt. I am thankful that he takes a shower at least during the week--hardly ever on a weekend! If he didn't work, I suppose he would never shower. I buy all kinds of grooming aids for him but they don't get used. I am so over the scruffy 'menergy' look. I'd like to have a man that has some respect for himself as well as for me.

"Menergy"? Are you serious? I mean really, who comes up with all of these gay titles? Is this your job to come up with these "new" words. I just don't get it.

Isn't 'that' the GAYEST thing ever? Milan Fashion Week and Masculine don't deserve to be in the same sentence? C'mon guys!

There never was a metromale - it was just a phase for those who have no identity and do whatever the wind does. Real men have always said that metrosexual is a passing bad dream. Just like politically-correctness and the Mars/Venus thing. Besides, its Mars/Uranus.

I am sorry to see it go, it seems that men want to look as if they just got out of the desert. It looks so discusting that a man has to look like a tramp.

Men used to be men, now, they are mostly pretty boys. My husband is a man's man, and always has been. If I had wanted "Pretty Boy", I would have married a woman.

Guys getting pedicures and manicures was always so annoying. Being a manly man doesn't get you off the hook from taking showers and brushing your teeth but I'm happier not having to fight for the bathroom mirror in the mornings!
