Secret to Brittny Gastineau's success? Try anorexia
Filed under: CELEBRITY STYLE, Celebrity, News
There's a zen koan that says if you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him. Now I don't know anything about meeting Buddha, but I can say that if you meet a model on the road who says she loves to eat, don't believe her -- especially if she's ex-reality TV-star Brittny Gastineau.
The raven-haired Gastineau recently told Jay Leno's "Ross the Intern" that she stayed thin through anorexia.
Was she kidding? Well, if you trace Gastineau's incredible weight loss over the past year (I don't -- I honestly didn't know who she was until thirty minutes ago), you'd probably conclude that she was speaking the truth. But still, the confession seems awfully weird.
One thing is certain, admitting to an eating disorder is not a good way to jump start a modeling career, which her friends say is the motivation behind her shrinking frame. Even though most agents and designers would be chomping at the bit to get a 5'11 girl who weighs just 105 pounds, I doubt anyone is willing to touch her now that she's publicly admitted she's an anorexic. The fashion industry can't continue to exist as it is without putting forth the illusion that models its healthy and naturally thin. The fact is once a model says she's sick, the gig's up.

The AOL headline said "star". Deceptive advertising.

I Think by saying once your admit to it the gig is up is going to keep many girls who are sick from getting help.

Sounds like she simply wanted to get her name out there, how cute that the only way she could figure out how to do it was to claim to have a mental illness.
As for 5'11" and 105 pounds, please. At that height and weight she would be emaciated to the point that doctors would be looking to have her committed for treatment and no photographer would consider hiring her.

Girls going anorexic to get attention is a horrible, scary statement about society without question, but AOL using poorly written articles like this one, which aren't proofread is unacceptable!

I watched bits and pieces of their show. Agents, people in the modeling business etc, told her she was chunky or whatever. I thought she looked just fine. She probably got majorly stressed out because she wasn't getting hired enough or something. I think she is a beautiful gal.

im really tired of girls thinking they're model material because theyre either horribly thin or because they have long hair extensions and wear alot of make and are told they're "pretty". A MODEL THAT DOES NOT MAKE!! most of the most popular and in demand models have an unconventional beauty to them which is perfect for high fashion. OR they have an ethereal beauty to them (i.e. the model hopeful Heather on tyra banks, top model show, that girl should have packed her bags and hit NYC a long time ago) this girl is average at best. i see no bone structure or features that will jump from the page of an editorial and make you wonder who this beauty is. her only advantage is that she is rich and therefore will have an easier time booking go-sees, but will she actually be hired afterwards? NO. she is another talentless, skinny girl who degrades the modeling industry by even entertaining the notion that she is good enough to be one of us.

SHE's A LIAR! I really AM 5'11" and I'm 130 lbs and I look a LOT skinnier than her. Of course I'm healthy too and don't starve myself, but seriously the least I ever weighed was 110lbs back in HS (my family is all naturally thin). She is NOT 5'11". She might be like, 5'8" or so but I will bet you $1million dollars she's lying about either her height, weight or both. What a loser.

this certainly doesn't help women like me who are thin who are trying to gain weight. People see a thin woman and they assume she has to be anorexic. I thought about modeling, but an agent wanted to me to lose 10 pounds, I would be the same size as the model mentioned. I don't think so! I just hope people will make themselves informed about anorexia. Also, most anorexics do not admit it, they are very secretive. It might just be a ploy. Anorexics don't even lie "eating" in front of people. If you can call it eating. If you don't know much about anorexia, I would recommend a book I read when I was a teenager "the best little girl in the world." it's an eye opeber.

Sadly, it's true that ... "most agents and designers would be chomping at the bit to get a 5'11 girl who weighs just 105 pounds" but they'd shy away from an anorexic. They had no problem with jump starting that coke-head kate moss's career! being unnaturally skinny (due to an eating disorder, drugs, exlax-addiction... WHATEVER) should NOT be tolerated. i swear, the fashion/model world makes me want to vomit. yeah, i said vomit.

How pathetic that this "woman" would say that she's anorexic all in the name of her futhering her attempt at being a model. She's setting a terrible example for women everywhere. She's a poor little rich girl that's not getting her way and not a high paid model. I personally find the uber skinny models to be digusting, it's a fact that more women are a size 12 and above more so than a size 0, Designers need to take a long hard look in the mirror , most desingers couldn't fit their own samples that they expect the models to wear. be realistic ,fashion is suppose to be about feeling and looking good and how can you do that when you are starving yourself and look like a skeleton on the walkway? that would make me personally not want to support that designer because of their unrealistic views on what they deem to be beauty. Another fact Marilyn Monroe was a healthy size 16 and she has held the title of sex symbol for over 40 yrs. Let's get back to when real women were the models and not these stick figures we see on the catwalks!
