Styles that Stick: Hoop earrings
Filed under: Accessories, Fashion, Designers & Brands
The following post is for people with pierced ears only. Sorry, clip-on girls! A girl with pierced ears must own the following pairs of earrings: diamond studs (real or fake), pearls, and a pair of gold hoops. These three pairs of earrings will always be practical and stylish, so make sure you invest in a good pair.
Out of the three, gold hoops just might be the most fun. The great thing about gold hoops is that there are so many options. For a delicate look, go for small gold hoops. For a "ghetto-fabulous" look, the bigger, the gaudier, the better.
My earliest memory of gold hoop earrings was, well, it was birth. My Mom had my ears pierced straight out of the womb and the first pair of earrings I wore were teeny tiny gold hoops. Twenty-seven years later, gold hoops are still in style. I think it is safe to say that hoop earrings are a style that sticks.

Okay, this is a load of dingos kidneys. No one, and I mean NO ONE in my family, with my shade of skin looks good in any shade of gold. We are strictly silver girls here.

GOLD hoops? What if you don't look good in gold? I say white gold or easy and affordable sterling silver is equally a great way to go. But I totally agree about the diamonds and pearls. I wanted diamond studs for almost 20 years and my mother gave me a pair when I married and moved away. I wear them almost every day and with almost everything. Half carat (each ear) is perfect size.

I don't like or look good in gold with my "pinki undertone" skin. I don't LIKE pearls and also, with a ROUND face, I ned a contrasting shape rather than ADDING to the "ROUND theme" with ROUND hoops. Any OTHER birght ideas?

Since I have "pinkish" skin tones, I can't wear gold, nor do I even LIKE it. I am allergic to white gold and, with a ROUND face, adding ROUND hoops just ADDS to the ROUND "theme". I also don't LIKE pearls. LOVE QVC's "Diamonique"!!! But, "one-size-fits-all" advice / generalizations don't, and never will, apply to ALL of us. I say, try them on and, if YOU like them, BUY them! Also, if you are applying for a job, have one pair of small, "conservative" errings. (Save the "wild" flashy ones for after you GET the job. Don't distract them at the interview.)

I didn't get my ears peirced until I was 30. My aunt gave me my grandmothers diamond earings and so I was compelled to get it done.
I'm glad I finally did as I now have at least 100 pairs of beautiful earings but still only one hole in each ear. Some are very expensive and others are just a lot of fun or go with certain suits and outfits.
If you go to church fairs you can find some abosolutely beautiful good, old jewlery. Make sure you clean it and you will be delighted.

I prefer studs, it is SO rocker chic! Now hoops, they get caught on almost anything, and I do mean anything! like, this one time, mine got caught on my door handle! It was in SO much pain! But I learned from my mistakes!

I've always had the hoops, pearls and studs......not Tiffany. Found good ones at Walmart, Target, Shopko - and don't be afraid to look at the clearance items - sometimes you get a steal on some nice quality ones.
Bottom line: You've got your own style - wear what looks good on ya.
Right now I wear some hoops from Avon (on sale for $10 with a matching necklace) that are gold/silver twists with rhinestones - they go with anything....I work two jobs and don't have time to think about being perfectly this or that.

I don't believe that hoops look good on everyone. If you have a fatter face, hoops will only make your face look fatter. Drop earrings are a thick girls best friend. (Taken from someone who is a gorgeous size 14)! :0

Pearls? YUCK! I don't know ANYONE who wears pearls, young or old! All anyone needs is hoops and some nice studs, real or not. Wear what looks good on you!
As far as purchasing ANYTHING at Tiffany, don't bother--everything there is WAY overpriced. I had a bracelet that was given to me by an old bf, and I took it to the jeweler's to sell it, thinking that I'd get some decent money for it. FIFTEEN BUCKS is all I got. The jeweler even told me never to waste my money on Tiffany. He said it's only worth about 5-10% of what you pay for it, especially the silver. What a shame.
