Pepsi to make women's clothing
Filed under: Fashion, Best of the Season
Apparently Pepsi has accepted that they'll never beat Coke in the cola wars, and have decided to branch out into something different -- women's wear. They already launched a men's line back in 2006 (full of items that looked like they came straight out of Vanilla Ice's closet), so this isn't a huge surprise -- but the women's clothing market is decidedly more competitive, so it'll be interesting to see how the new line compares to those launched by real designers. The line should be available in around 1,000 stores over the coming year, but don't expect to see it advertised in fashion magazines. It sounds like the company plans to sell their product by pushing it off on celebrities -- then hoping that people notice. While that's standard practice designers who make clothing that doesn't suck, somehow I see that being less effective with t-shirts and sweatshirts that look like walking billboards for second-rate soda.
Granted, I've only ever seen the men's collection, so maybe the women's looks will be more bearable. But I'm not holding my breath.

Who is this idiot? Pepsi is a second rate soda? It's a "Marketing" gimmick idiot....get it? I guess if you came up with the idea, then it would be okay...go back to your little computer you jerk!

That will be the day when Coke ever out does Pepsi in my opinion ! I have for the last 43 years drank nothing but Pepsi... Coke leaves to much of a syrupy taste in my mouth, and have never been able to quench my thirst. I just wish you still had in the 16oz. bottles. So thumbs up to Pepsi products... Kim

This is a big mistake. One of the major rules of marketing: if you're going to branch into other markets, change your name. They should stay as Pepsi for the soft drink, but come up with a different company name for the clothing. The way they're doing it now is because they are hoping their name will bring them revenue. I forsee a disasterous failure. Coca-Cola followed the Rules of Marketing. Unitl they slip up, they will forever be on top.

I love Pepsi. Yummmmmmy! Diet Pepsi, the best. Coke is good too. Especially with some pizza. Yum I still haven't eaten. I am getting hungry.

If you actually looked at soft drink sales charts, you would know that pepsi is now the top selling soft drink in the United States, followed by Mt. Dew--NOT COKE-- Coke is the third best selling soft drink. Pay attention to shelf space in a grocery store and it should be obvious. I look down on writers who don't know their facts.

Interesting. Pepsi's stock has been beating Coke's for years. And this person calls Pepsi "second-rate"?

In my opinion, Pepsi is why better than Coke. I can tolerate Pepsi, but when I drink Coke, I get chest pains (kind of like heart burn) and I burn alot. Oh well.
Have famous people wear the Pepsi line to push it? Yeah. Paris Hilton would much rather have Coke up her nose than Pepsi on her flat ass.

There is only one PROVEN FACT for the use of Coca-Cola, and that is as a rust remover. If it does that to rust, what is it doing to your throat and stomach? Think about that one.
As for PEPSI, they have never proven it can remove rust like it's rival. So I would put your money and mine where our mouths are and this is to stick to PEPSI. It may be an old slogan but it still works: Come Alive, You're In The Pepsi Generation!!!!!!!!

I think it's a cool idea... If Pepsi would pay me in money, I would be very happy to wear their clothing to be a walking advertisement for them. Let's negotiate the time and amount $$$$$ soon, I need another trip to Hawaii by Christmas. LOLOLOL

i guess it's an ok idea. i dont really like the shirt that's on the model, but let's see what the women's line looks like. idk if i'll buy it tho. as for celebrities wearing the clothes to promote it, it depends what the clothes look like. if they look like trash, celebrities aint wearing them. i think the women's line will look good if the design isn't' overdone.

in the mid '80's when i was in high school, both coke and pepsi had clothing lines. they weren't cheaply made or priced. i remember my friend and i both had coke rugby shirts that our moms ordered from spiegel. i had a pepsi denim jacket and some of our friends had clothes from the lines as well.

Pepsi started a line of clothing back in 1987... didn't really work then...
Hope they have better luck now, 20 years later...
