Resolutions to Reality: Organize closet with better hangers

I am not usually one for resolutions but the time I have been spending in suburbia has inspired me to make a few. First one is to manage my money better (that's not going to be easy) and second is to organize my closet. Now that, I can handle.

In order to keep my second resolution I will have to break my first resolution by spending some money at The Container Store, Bed Bath and Beyond and probably a few other places too. I am hoping that organizing my closet will help me actually see how much stuff I have that way I will stop buying so much. Of course my plan could totally backfire and I may end up seeing that I have room for more stuff -- it's a risk I am willing to take.

The first step I plan on taking in my closet organization resolution is to buy new hangers. I found these great ultra slim hangers at suburban super-store, Bed Bath and Beyond. I used my Mother as a test subject and got her 2 packs of 10 hangers. The hangers are great, your clothes don't slip and the slim design takes up less space in your closet.

If you really want to watch your "moooolah"......head for your nearest
Dollar Tree.....you can get packs of 4 hangers for $1.00.....the lovely
heavy duty clear plastic with metal swivel hooks.....same kind of hangers
that they use to hang clothes on in places like JC Penny......

or just get them from the department store! ask then to leave your stuff on the hanger when you buy it (which most gladly will unless the store won't let them - i used to work in a dept store).

or if you catch them when they need to empty the hanger bin, just ask for a bagful. the stores i worked at just threw them away or recycled them, so giving themaway is no big deal. and the dept store hangers are good at not giving shirts that annoying little shoulder blip.

You can buy teh super slim hangers at half the price at the Christmas Tree Shop. They are 10 for 5.00--just as slim as the Bed Bath brand. All of them are equal quality, though my understanding is that the quality of ALL of the current ones is not as good as when these first came out on HSN years ago. Still, they work wonders for my clutter and, yes, I see everything I own as well!

I also bought those hangers and loved them - when I needed more I found them at Ross Dress for Less in a wider variety of colors and for a lot less: $6.99 for a pack of 10.

I personally prefer thicker plastic hangers for the majority of my clothes. They don't get shoulder "puffs" as often and wrinkles are not as much of a problem. Plus, I color-code somewhat since some of the clothes are tucked out of the light and I can tell by the hangers which colors I am reaching for. I use skinny hangers only for the most slippery clothes (because slip-free hangers are always skinny).

Somehow I think most of ya'll missed the point on this. These hangers don't let anything fall off of them. Their flocked. Like the ones that Joy Mangano sells on TV. You can get cheaper versions of them tho. But the cheapo plastic ones at the 99cent store? Well, you get what you pay for and what you get with those are little bumps in the shoulders of anything you hang on them. I prefer wooden hangers. Even pricier than the flocked ones, but worth it if you buy GOOD clothes, not crap from WalMart.

If you really want to save room in your closet, hand a pair of slacks over the bottom part of the hanger and then hang a matching blouse or shirt over top. Two pieces on one hanger and an outfit already put together!

I have the hangers and I LOVE them!! They are a great investment and I am planing on getting another box of the 50 hangers to finish out my closet. I even hang tanks on them and they stay in place.

I agree that most missed the point - I have plenty of those plastic tubular hangers, the dept. store ones, etc. These black flocked hangers are wide (I'm a large size and the hangers do fit to shoulders) and the clothes, especially jewel necks and silky fabrics don't slip off of them. I prefer the Joy Magano or QVC knock off of Magano's stuff, but those are TOO expensive, get more with the Bed, Bath & Beyond. with these narrow size hangers (and the black flocked and the more expensive versions have the swivel neck someone raved about) I can fit 2x as many clothes and in winter that is really necessary with the more bulky clothes. I also use the space bags - really love those when changing seasons. That creates a lot of space as well.

I switched to the black hangers this past year. They are wonderful for tops that slide off normal hangers and take up so much room in the closet. They are so thin but sturdy. I've also started buying aluminum hangers that are thick enough for my other tops and don't bend like the plastic ones. They are very sturdy and they don't take up as much space at the the plastic ones. They really don't give you puffs in the shoulders either. You can find them at Altmeyers. I'm not sure if they sell them at BBand Beyond. KMart sells Martha Stewart Pant Hangers that aren't as bulky as regular pants hangers and they have some that have a hook in the front that you can hang another pair of pants on it too.

After continually finding my teenage son's clothes on the floor, these hangers are SPECTACULAR (his words). I bought the expensive ones from QVC, but worth the money in my book. Knock-offs now would be great. I'll have to keep my eye out. My daughter and husband are crying for them now.

In my former house I had hangers on door knobs, drawer pulls & of course the closet. Then I discovered the Joy Mangano hangers! They are fabulous. Nothing falls off and no bumps on the shoulders. I can get 3x as much stuff in my closets now. I discarded all my other hangers and only use JM's. I've bought dozens and even give them as shower and engagement gifts. Everyone loves them. They cost more but it's worth it. Catch them when they are a Today's Special with free S&H. I've converted our whole family. Try them!

I previously owned a, small, clothing boutique. I got used to nice hangers. Clothes look good on them, they don't fall off, and they don't make creases at the shoulders. I love their swivel heads also. There are different grades of then, it pays to buy the strongest. The hangers are also a good investment. I have had many of my present hangers for 20 years. Anyone can buy them from most 'store fixtures' businesses. They come in boxes of 100.

The Joy M hangers are wonderful but a little expensive for me so I get the ones in Bed,Bath and Beyond and use their 20% off coupons which makes them even less . Also I get them at Target in packages of 3 for 2.99 . I will never go back to any other type hanger these are the best

I've replaced most of the hangers in the house with heavy duty plastic coated wire available at Target & Meijers. They're cheaper than the flocked junk and work just fine. We've had no problems with anything falling off. Paying .75-$1.00 or more for a hanger is just silly. You can also hang clothes damp and let them air dry if needed.
