Stylefoul: Avril Lavigne's New Year's Eve getup
Filed under: CELEBRITY STYLE, Hair Care, Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes, Hair, Celebrity, Hot or Not
All right, perhaps it's a bit unfair to call Avril Lavigne's New Year's Eve outfit a "getup" because it seems to be what she's wearing these days. I'm not sure what kind of look she was going for, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't meant to be "Hot Topic clearance rack." Or maybe it was. I don't entirely know what to think anymore.
Note Lavigne's chunky streaks, oversized false lashes, wrinkled graphic shirt, bright pink nails, tiny plaid skirt, belt worn askew, skull-embellished Doc Martens, and thick checkerboard shoelaces. Now, let's take a moment to breathe and then hold out our arms to Lavigne in a unified expression of "What in the hell were you thinking?!?!"
This is what is called "overdoing it". Let's pretend she had gone with the pink streaks and a sleek LBD... or the false lashes paired with a glammy little number... or the wrinkled shirt and some well-tailored, dark wash jeans. See, any of those options would have been tasteful and quirky. But no, Lavigne just had to go all the way and turn up on the red carpet looking like a 14 year-old who listens to The Clash because it was briefly referenced in her favorite teen comedy.
Sometimes I forget that Lavigne is 23 years-old and married. From the looks of her wardrobe, it seems like she forgets that too.

She looks alright.
She dosen't look like some Fem-Bot, glamor tool.
The only thing I would change is the eyelashes. People always go over board with those things, and they make you look hard. Just a few is all you need. Hers make her look older. Obviously not the look she's going for.

She looks better than most of the "rock stars" today. Bottom line is she really doesn't care what anyone thinks nor do most of her generation.

I'd MUCH rather see an outfit like that on a female than the pants hanging off the arse with the thongs hanging out or ( on guys ) the pants hanging so low that you just know they are going to drop right off. What makes any of these mooks think that the general public needs to see thier underware, anyway? She doesn't look bad at all.

WHAT DOES SHE DO? WHO IS THIS? CERTAINLY NOT A BEAUTY OF ANYTHING.

Okay, quite honestly i don't think she looks bad at all. As a guy I find girls mroe attractive that take risks like this wiht tehir clothes, it says something about their character. As for the author of the article, I don't see why this is such a big deal. So the girl sported grunge, and she did it rather well, there is no reason to trash her for it.

She's 23 and should be able to express herself anyway she wants. At least she's not a press ho like Brit, Paris, et

To the couple of "supporters":
The thing about Avril is that she IS a pop princess. Her music is roughly the same as any you would hear come out of any of the American Idol or Disney Channel people, so she is not using her unique style that is reflective of who she is (if who she is is how she portrays herself through her music).
Second, she IS 24 and IS married. This look is (not) appropriate for 18 year olds in your local shopping mall, but she is not 18. As "What Not to Wear" host (I forgot which) said; "Don't compete with 18 year olds, because the 18 year olds will ALWAYS WIN".
Now, as far as press ho. That is subjective as all these stars are being followed constantly. Some of them embrace it and use the attention as a means to fill up some empty part of their life, others get aggressive and hostile, and still others just avoid the light entirely except to promote something they want you to buy.... which brings us to....
Lavigne's hubby has a new CD out (Sum 41.. more pop punk.. that is actually a little punkish).. and seeing how he needs to see and be seen to get the word out about his song, who is to say this getup isn't an attempt by avril to seem more hot topic punk to appeal to the fan base that Sum 41 already has.
Judging by the past misgivings, she knows how to NOT dress like a n 18 year old mall rat, and I think this might have a bit more to do with keeping a younger teen audience for her music ("seriously I can relate to your problems being a 24 year old star that is married).. and not doing much to damage the "image" of her husband's band.
... btw... Sum 41's first hit song "Fat Lip" has a line about wasting your life and becoming another casualty of conformity... and then he marries Avril Lavigne.. which I found hilariously ironic.
but he is happy (in theory) so go him and her!

Listen James, you really could have said that in about 4 sentences. But when it comes to beating a dead horse, you win. Your opinion matters about as much as her outfit does. I had to comment (and do my own little rant) because your comments were just so incredibly stupid that I couldn't resist. You need to (1) get a life; (2) get a hobby; (3) accept that your just another unimportant nobody (like the rest of us) whose point of view is worthless and moot. Your saying she should grow up? Your the one ranting about her outfit! There are more important things in the world to give your time to. Your probably typing from your mom's basement (your apartment, sorry) with posters of the idiots who are always in the media (Spears, Lohan, Hilton) and are carbon copies of one another. The trend this year was prison, pregnancy and rehab. Your pathetic if this is what your life is about. Furthermore, the music you hear on those radio stations (Disney? WTF) sound that way BECAUSE of her. They are copying her, she's been around for longer than your little brain might realize. I'm not important, your not important, get over yourself. You are just a brainwashed nobody. To spare the world of having to hear your idiocy again, do the rest of us a favor and shut up.

Scribbles, you are good! :) You used every feature of a standard internet rebuttal.
1.) "Your post is too long to say what you just said"
2.) "Because of your post length you obviously have no life"
3.) "Because you have no life, you obviously live in your mom's basement"
4.) "You are a nobody and no one ever cares what you have to say EVER!"
and finally my favorite
5.) "Take the time you took to write that response and put it to more "constructive avenues" of the world that truly need help.
Now I really applaud you because you did all of it without profanity, so that's a bonus over most other standard internet rebuttals.
I could argue with you to no end that you are wrong on all points, but I will just pick the final one.
We can all pick something worthwhile to argue about and put our intellectual and linguistic efforts to a "higher cause", but while some people like to relax with a Corona on an isolated beach, others like "debating" clothing styles of people we hardly know and we know we will never meet. You are not those people, but you are in their "comfort zone" when you come to sites specifically catered to them. If the Corona people don't want noisy tourists ruining their beach, why would anyone want spiteful little trolls ruining their little getaway of a website.
But, of course, there are a myriad of answers to this that this site is NOT dedicated to. I still am quite the happy that you took the time out to hit all points and hopefully feel a little bit better about the whole thing :).
Back on Topic - Avril doesn't write her songs, they come from the same section of songwriters that do most the other pop songs on the radio, so yes she is just like the Disney / Pop Princess crowd in that her "expression of herself" in one of the arenas that can easily be compared is JUST like the others that she tries to distance herself from.
I think it's perfectly wonderful she has not gotten strung out on drugs, pregnant too early, or gone to jail! I think from a "how to manage being famous and work the industry right" she is a great example for other pop princesses to follow, and should be a role model (if the kids want her to be) for little girls. The thing we are talking about is her wardrobe (as shallow as that may sound it's a fashion blog) and the reasons for what most would consider a train wreck of an outfit. I think she can do better, but it's not on her to do so, especially if she is happy like that!
5.)

She writes her own music, so read up on your stuff before you say things.
