Model makes orgasm commercial, then sues because "it looks lewd"
Filed under: Fashion, News, Designers & Brands
Let's be honest. Big companies often don't play nicely. They're out to make money, not protect your image, so -- especially if you're a model, actor, or anyone else in the public eye -- it shouldn't be all that surprising when they misrepresent you in order to earn a little extra cash.
However, when you agree to lie on a bed and fake an orgasm on film, it seems like you should expect to look, well, a little dirty. That's what this model agreed to do for a jewelry company called Szul. However, now that the commercial is all over YouTube (as you might suspect, it's fairly popular), she's worried that it might tarnish the "wholesome image" she's "worked hard to project."
She's not working that hard, apparently.
To be fair, the model (who is married, and a graduate student in early education), was told that the commercial's plot would be focused on a man giving her a necklace -- and she spent the majority of her time filming that relatively innocuous storyline. At the end of the shoot, the director had her lie down and "fake excitement" (read: pretend to have an orgasm) over and over until he thought he had a take that looked believable.
Seems like both sides have a valid argument: what do you think?

Did she sign a contract? Did she sign a release? Oh well, next time . . .
I don't think the video is dirty or lewd. She is dressed and looks like she is having a fantasy day dream, and a very nice one.

She doesn't have a leg to stand on. She agreed to do it and probably signed a release. Sorry dear, but if you don't want people to see it, then don't put it on film.

WHAT DO I THINK? SEXISM IS ALIVE AND VERY RAMPANT IN THIS WORLD. THE MODEL HAD NO CHOICE REALLY, DO THE SCENE OR WALK AND LOSE THE MONEY. I FOR ONE AM TIRED OF THE OVER-OVER-OVER -SEXUALIZATION OF WOMEN, THE DELIBERATE WHORING OF WOMANHOOD IF I MAY SAY, SO MEN CAN FEEL COMFORTABLE ABOUT THEMSELVES. THIS SOCIETY HAS JUST GOTTEN SICKER AND SICKER. INNOCENT FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN WOMEN NOW IS FODDER FOR MALE SEX FANTASIES. NOW WE HAVE FEMALE STARS MAKING OUT WITH THIER OWN SISTERS! AND TWELVE YEAR OLD GIRLS DRESS LIKE STREET TROLLOPS AND ASPIRE TO BE A "PRETTY WOMAN" - A HOOKER IN OTHER WORDS. ALL SO MEN CAN GET OFF ON THEMSELVES.

HEY TERRI, WHY ALL THE BAD KARMA AIMED AT MEN? IF YOU HATE MEN SO MUCH, JUST BE A LESBIAN AND GET IT OVER WITH. IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE COMMERCIAL, DON'T WATCH. WHERE IN THE ARTICLE DID IT SAY THAT A MAN HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE DIRECTION OR PRODUCTION OF THIS COMMERCIAL, AND HOW DOES IT MAKE MEN THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL? TRY A VALIUM NEXT TIME.

OK Terri...1st, I think that you have some unresolved issues to deal with there...2nd, feminists have been fighting for their right to an orgasm for decades. Why is it that it's suddenly sexist to show it? Make up your mind! 3rd and lastly, Yes, she DID have a choice. I'm certain that the company talked about what they wanted before the contract signing and if she didn't insist that they did she is not just a whore she is a STUPID whore....

Um, jewelry doesnt do that. It is a stupid commercial and nobody even knows what they are trying to sell. I thought it was a commercial for a movie.
I think she sued because that would be an idiotic thing to have on one's resume.

Emerald your an idiot!!!! My girlfriend loves the commercial and so I bought her a necklace. I'll admit it was some very sexy fun. Maybe your not getting any and your just jealous.

The ad is actually quite funny. She is a highly educated woman, she knew exactly what was going on. Overall, there is nothing to be embarassed about. It is clean and PG-13 at worst. Any future employer that wouldn't hire her because of this, well, she probably wouldn't want to work for them anyway.

WOW. Terri, you really need to get some self esteem issues worked out. This has nothing to do with feminism. I wonder how much you would stand for a ripped god of a man standing there with a hand full of diamonds for sale. How do you really react to jokes about men? How do you handle the constant man bashing in society from both men and women? It is like the tables have turned and it is ok to put men down but heaven forbid we ever make a coment about a woman these days. Get that stick that is stuck up you womanhood out and get a life.

Models should know what they're signing up for before they agree to do an ad. She should be aware of the nature of the modeling industry enough to realize that things like that can and will happen.
I have a different objection to this ad. I object to the message sent to men that the only way to win my love is to buy some dumb little trinket, and the only thing I should want from men is material s**t. I don't care how much that dumb little trinket costs; the only way to "rock my world" (to quote the ad) is to really show me that you care about me, not to buy me things. Nothing material will ever replace being truly cared about, for me at least. Wake up, people, and realize what's truly important in life. Don't be swayed by ads like this.

Well said Emily. I'm sure many women share your sentiments, and that any thoughtful man would seek a woman with your wholesome values.
I know I did, and I found her 17 years ago. And we named our daughter Emily!

Embarrassingly bad commercial, lame, she shouldn't have done it if she didn't want it seen.

Sorry, that was more than a gesture of being excited over receiving a gift. The Ohhhs and Awwwws, and hand movements over her body, throwing her head side to side and etc. indicates without doubt she was sexually excited. Doing this once or twice or a multitude of times does not change the original movement. It was sexual and I am sure she knew this.

It was a job. I assume that she signed a contract and agreed to it being used. Now she has remorse over it, or is it that she wants more money? The old look before you leap comes to mind here. Now if she were to offer to pay all the expenses spent in the making of the commercial and for the air time...nah we know that will not happen. I think she just wants more money...........
