Shiny leggings: The next big thing?

Let's be real: leggings, whether you like them or not, have been back for awhile -- making a triumphant return from the 80s and invading celeb fashion for at least a year. Some high profile fashionistas (ahem, Lindsay Lohan) love leggings so much, they occasionally mistake them for pants (though I assure you, they are not).

So whatever -- these trends come and go all the time. I'm not a huge fan of absurdly tight clothing, but some women pull them off. I am surprised, however, to see the resurgence of shiny leggings. This is a look reserved for tough-looking, hairy biker women in bad 80s movies.

Or so I thought. Kendall Herbst from New York Magazine recently tested a pair of shiny leggings out on the streets on Manhattan, and apparently she likes them. "For one, the latex sheen makes my legs look slim and sexy, like they'd been squeezed out of a black-oil-paint tube." Which, apparently, is a good thing.

I'm not convinced. Fashionistas, what do we think?

Sudzkelly - you're the only one with any sense at all... wear what makes you look good and what makes you feel good about yourself. Otherwise, leave it and the snide remarks like those from Laura Arrendell; black_myst; and Patricia Howard on the "Cat-Walk."

Laura Arrendell; black_myst; and Patricia Howard - I think you three missed the point... The Cheerleader type look extremly sexy in tights, any tights. These women are active, sports types and they have the legs and the body shape to wear leggings/tights. Either you three are from the conservitave crowd or you don't have the athletic body it takes to pull this look togeither - so don't wear them.

They look great on women with slender bodies and legs. They look great on men doing winter sports and biking. Men are usually discriminated against in most menswear fashion where ironically and sexistly, females have total free range in historical male clothes. Totally biased against males in fashion is slightly waning as of late.

I love wearing my black wet look leggings with knee length boots,and a nice top , i feel great as i walk down the road, the only people that dont like the way i dress are the the ones that either would like to wear them but havnt the nearve or there figures arnt good enough,i also have two pairs of stirrup pant leggings black/brown which i wear with high heels, i get lots of admireing glances from men and women so i cant think they look that bad.

ew that's disgusting. the cheerleaders at our school wear shiny legging as part of their outfit in the cold. it looks gross on them. makes their legs look soooooo fat
