Winners, Performers, and Presenters

Beyonce COULD NOT have chosen a better dress for dancing next to Tina Turner. Her outfit, a silver metallic sparkly minidress, was a PERFECT tribute to what Tina Turner has accomplished throughout her career. And I might be reading more into this than I should, but I think Tina looked pretty darn proud of Beyonce. But who wouldn't? She was FANTASTIC!

Cher
wore a eighties' themes Les Mis-reject costume to introdue Beyonce (who looked sooo cute -- very Broadway, but that's what they were going for). But even still, Cher

Fergie
is SO NOT Fergilicious in her performance outift! Yikes -- she could have worn something that's been in style within the last, like, 40 years, couldn't she? Oh, or at least something that worked for her shape. Or color. Or something ...

Kanye West
wore a most fabulous jacket in the strobe light, but we've GOT to do something about the glasses. Although, at second glance (and without the black light), I'm not sure about the collar. However, he did a lovely tribute to his mother (and had MAMA shaved into his hair), so I'm going to hold back on any critique on what he's wearing.

Until he got up to accept an award and I saw his jacket in the actual light. It really was spectacular in the strobe and black light, but in real light, it was less than stellar. A costume change (and attitude change, Mr. Stop-the-music-playing-me-off) might be in order.

Cyndi Lauper and Miley Cyrus (or is it Hannah Montana)
looked too cute together. It's a great comparison to have someone with so much experience and so many awards next to someone who's just starting out -- and isn't that what the Grammys are about? They both looked lovely, although I was hoping for something a little crazier from Cyndi ...

Rhianna
looks like she might have killed an ostrich to make her gold little mini dress for her performance of Umbrella and Don't Stop the Music. But she jumped in on The Time dance, so I'm going to give her some props.

The Time
appears to be wearing glimmery gold chiffon ascot and matching suit. Sheesh.

Prince isn't wearing a purple velvet suit and he looks great. His red suit, well, suits him -- it's flamboyant but still totally fashionable, and his sunglasses (Versaces?) were so hot.

Carrie Underwood
sings her hit single, Before He Cheats after Alicia and Old Blue Eyes finish the initial duet. Her outfit works for her -- sparkly black boot/spat things, hotpants, and a hot little v-neck. The little black outfit paired with her long blond hair and big eyes are fantastic.

Alicia Keys (and Frank Sinatra)
sing a fabulous duet at the start of the Grammys, and she looks just wonderful. The green of the dress is WONDERFUL skintone, and she's totally rocking it. Except for the cleavage factor, and her hair is sitting on top of her head like a scoop of ice cream. But the dress is mostly beautiful (and STILL better than a jumpsuit!).

Arrivals

Fergie just got back from Australia, where it's summer (according to E! online). That might also explain why she has a little kangaroo pouch in the front (I say this knowing full well that I would have a little 'roo wearing this dress, too). Might I make a suggestion, Ferg? Spanx! Unless that doesn't work with whatever undergarments The Dutchess needs to wear after all that champagne.

Nelly Furtado looked really normal. Her hair was swept back in a fairly conservative style, and she wore a long blue gown (are we seeing a trend) that was just wonderful. The gathers and neckline were completely flattering, but we need to talk about the necklace. Here in Florida we have bugs that die and curl up into a circle and look very much like what she has around her neck. Jewels next time, darling. Big, sparkly jewels.

Beyonce
wears a totally unexpected gown. It's hard to tell whether it's silver, or lilac, or both, but either way it's not showing her bootyliciousness to its full extent. However, it's not horrible -- it just doesn't really hug the curves that should be hugged.

Miley Cyrus
looks sweet and age appropriate (thank you, thank you!). She sure has a lot of hair, but the dress is a mini, sparkly thing, and she is really pulling it off. I love it.

Jay-Z wears a basic tux with a bit of bling.

Nas
wears a shirt with a statement (look him up if you don't believe me), but since he's nominated for an album titled Hip Hop is Dead, it seems he has a statement to make. Oh, Nas, you know you're a good looking guy and don't need to say such things on your t-shirt at the Grammys, right?

Taylor Swift
looks like the classic Hollywood blonde with old school waves and a long, purple dress with a big belt and pleats. She accentuates all the positives and eliminates any negatives -- but how hard can that be for a girl like her, right?

Rhianna
does a nice job of dressing her age and not wearing anything at all S&M related, but I'm still not digging it entirely. She's wearing blue, which seems to be the hot trend on the red carpet this year, and she's got some feathery type thing with ruffles under the skirt. It sort of looks like someone took scissors and hacked off the bottom of the dress. But, it's better than the ugly oversized-S&M-vest thing.

Carrie Underwood
wears a blue and purple printed halter gown. The color is fantastic on her, the hair isn't over the top, and the cut is just perfect on her. The bottom of the dress could have been a little more fitted to show off the girl's bodacious bod, but I'll still give her a pass.

Keyshia Cole
could not be more adorable sporting the LBD in a completely flattering cut. The neckline and waistline are SOOO CUTE! The hair might've had a little more help, but I can't say enough about the fab little dress.

Ashley Simpson
opts for red skinny pants, slightly elfin booties, a black jacket and big ol' scarf, and someone else's hair. Her makeup wasn't bad, though.

Foo Fighters
look a little boring, to be honest. There's not much color interest -- we've got a lot of black, with a little blue thrown in for good measure. Taylor Hawkins apparently missed the memo and went with lightwash jeans for the event, while the rest of the group went pretty dark.

Tia Carrere wears a long, dark cerulean v-neck gown with a yellow flower in her hair. She had to go either really long or really short for a necklace for a neckline like this, and I think she made the right choice.

Dee Dee Bridgewater might be nominated for best vocal jazz, but GOOD GOD! Can we talk about this? She's wearing dinner rolls around her neck! And the dress isn't any better!

7:20 Fantasia one-ups any get-up we've seen on AI and wears a really nice black gown, but has some CRAZY white stripe on her head that just doesn't need to be. Is skunk in fashion? But well done on the dress, Fanny ...

7:30 Cheika Hamala Diabate, nominated for Best Traditional World Music Album is dressed appropriately for his genre. I'm not entirely sure how this type of attire should fit, so I can't comment there, but the color is FAB! Plus, he's wearing a medal -- a winner already!

7:15 pm Giuliana Rancic, as a reporter for E!, looks STUNNING in a deep green strapless numbers. The girls are girls are just about pushed up to her throat, but good for her! She looks hot!

7:15 Alicia Keys looks lovely, if a little bit ready for prom. The color is beautiful (we saw a LOT of blue at the SAGs, so obviously that's a huge trend on the red carpet right now). At least it's not a jumpsuit.
