Victoria's Secret is too sexy
Victoria's Secret CEO, Sharen Tuney, thinks it's time for the lingerie company to tone things down a notch. Their image is getting too sexy and she believes that maybe things have gone too far.Tuney says, "We've so much gotten off our heritage ... too sexy, and we use the word sexy a lot and really have forgotten the ultra feminine. I feel so strongly about us getting back to our heritage and really thinking in terms of ultra feminine and not just the word sexy and becoming much more relevant to our customer."
Ummm, WHAT?!? They are a lingerie company! How are they supposed to sell lingerie without sex? Why do they think women are out there buying their underwear? Sure they have a few functional garments, but aside from the occasional nude seamless bra, everything else they sell is built for sex. C'mon now, I don't go to Victoria's Secret to get a push-up corset to wear to work! If it's not sexy, I don't want it -- and frankly, neither does my husband.
Practically speaking, could they really go back? Their image is so over-the-top sexy that I think they would almost have to build the brand back up from scratch in order to change the public perception. It's impossible not to think sexy when you think Victoria's Secret.

I think it's about time ... good for Sharen Tuney! I have worn VS undergarments for years but the "sexy" ads in the store windows have gotten so bad that I'm not comfortable shopping in there anymore. I have a teenage daughter and I don't let her shop there.

I have to agree. I love going to VS but I am embarrassed to even walk by the store with my two boys. They are younger and have yet to notice, but the company could at least keep it inside. I think that we complain about our young girls "growing up too fast" but then we advertise it as if sex is a perfectly ok means for women to get what they want. I dont care how sexy VS, but they should set their store up like Hollister and make it where you can not see in unless you are in there!

I think all women want to be sexy. Women can be sexy with sophistication and older women still want sexy things to put on with a look of sophistication. I have some good ideas for Sharen with getting back to the heritage of Victoria Secrets.
