Real women struggle with this summer's trends
Filed under: Clothing, Fashion, Best of the Season
Some trends are easily followed by real women -- think bold prints, ballet flats, and wide leg jeans. There are certain rules that even a fashion dummy could follow. And then there are other trends that aren't for the faint of heart. Skinny jeans are hard to wear unless you're, well, pretty skinny. Fashion as architecture is a toughy. And the new heel-less heels are pretty darn scary even for the most hardcore fashionista.
One British writer who was up for a challenge decided to see how some of this year's hottest fads look on the normal woman. She took on maxi dresses, jumpsuits and high waisted pants. Would a regular Jane look good in any of these outfits? The verdict -- no, no and yes!
The maxi dress made the woman feel pregnant. She didn't know what to wear with it and was left utterly confused. She came to the conclusion that this look is only for the young and beautiful. We, on the other hand disagree. We actually think this is one of the more wearable styles of the season.
When she wore a jumpsuit the effect was Dachshund-like, according to her date, because it made her legs look short and her torso look long. We're pretty sure that's not a look anyone in their right mind wants to go for.
As for the high waisted pants, these faired a little bit better. She found that when worn correctly they can make your legs look long. And, because they sit right around your natural waist, they accentuate your shape.
Would you wear any of those looks?

I know how hard it is to adapt, and fit into the constantly changing trends and silhuettes.
As for pants, like many I always felt that most, in no way were, or could ever be flattering to my body. That's until I discovered Yrmis|Christina. These two amazing designers have made it their mission to provide amazingly stylish pants that FIT an array of body types and sizes.
My first sold me completely, the girls did a fitting for me and helped me pick out many styles that fit as though they were made for my body. A high waisted pair with a slight flare that slimmed my hips by what looked like about 10 pounds. I also opted for a skinny slim cut pair, that I probably would've never before attempted, but feel fabulous in.
They've made me a pants wearer and believer.
