Filed under: Fashion, Best of the Season, How to Wear

Do you start bringing out your tank tops at the first sign of summer? Or do you hold out and wear shirts with sleeves even in the scorching sun?
Summer can be tough for women who are self-conscious about big arms -- you want to stay cool and look season appropriate, but you don't want to bring attention to your least favorite body part. This article should say "TOP" for ladies with large arms as there is only one picture. The rest of the photos are what not to wear.

There are actually 3 suggestions for what to wear and 3 suggestions for what to avoid. Hope that's helpful!

wish someone would make beautiful clothes that is cut properly and
priced AFFORDABLY! It can't be that hard. Even if you go to 'the 1'
store that's dedicated to plus size clothes (I hate that term) at
somewhat decent prices, the cut on the garments are OFF! Everything,
the sleeves on the tops are cut at the widest part of the arm and the
length is all funky. Don't even get me started on pants and shorts!
To get a decent cut on a garment you shouldn't have to spend a
fortune! There is just no reason! I have some sketches, just wish
I knew where to take them.

I wish these companies that make clothes for larger woman would use larger Models..when you look at a dress or a blouse on a 93 lbs of bones and the sizes go to 5 X it is so misleading ...I know I have bought clothes that looked awful oncew I put them on but they looked soo nice in tghe book ..COME ON people let us big gals see what the clothes look like on Gals our size go for a 20 which is 1/2 way between 16 and 26 Than we will be happy with our clothes and not so scared to look in the mirror

It took me a long while to stop feeling ashamed of my big body. Then I realized that while I needed to loose some weight, alot of my bigness was due to being big boned and having alot of muscle on those big bones. I am very strong and fairly tall. People ask me to get stuff off the top shelf for them. Also, nobody tries to steal my purse! It has been difficult while growing up and seeing all these tiny models, thinking I had to loose all this weight, when really I just have a different kind of body that is healthy and just fine.

If anyone thinks the models in these pictures are chubby they need to have their head examined! the white top is definately a plus size model but the others-NO! The article gave the impression that you were going to get alternatives to wearing sleeves when its hot..... But all of the tips were to wear sleeves!

How can we find out where these dresses/tops are available? Especially, #1. #3. #4 and #5?

All tops are available at Nordstrom -- there's a credit at the bottom of each gallery picture.

Kristen, Thank you for responding. I DO see a credit for Lane Bryant on the picture accompanying the story. However, I DO NOT see any credit at the bottom of any of the gallery pictures. However, thanks to you, I know where to find them now.
Thanks again.

Tank tops are not your only choice. There are some sweet-looking tops by "Ginger G" at Love Of Fashion. They have the coolest, short sleeved design. Check them out at http://loveoffashion.com/WomensCasualTops.html

Flatter big arms-we can help?
I don't think you helped at all. We with bigger arms already know that we can shirts with sleeves. I was hoping for advise on flattering tank tops. So, I supose we just have to suck it up and wear tanks if we want to. My advise is to wear shirts with straps thick enough to cover bra straps!

I have found both tops and bottoms at a store called C.J.Banks. You can look on line at them. They are geared more to 25-45 ages. They carry the + size talls that I need and the pettites for my daughter.
