Learn to love bathing suit season
Filed under: Fashion, Best of the Season
Not everyone loves wearing a swimsuit -- even if you feel completely confident strutting your stuff in a sexy dress, you might be a little more self-conscious in a skimpy bikini. The thing is, when many of us think of one piece bathing suits, we think of what our grandmothers wore to the beach, complete with big flowers and flouncy skirts, but that doesn't have to be the case. There are plenty of one pieces designed to flatter your figure, provide coverage, and make you look super sleek and sexy.
Check out the gallery to see some options by Miraclesuit, which promises to make you look 10 pounds lighter in 10 seconds. But that's not the only brand available -- check here or here for more options in slimming swimwear!
And remember, you never know until you try it on!

I love my upper body, it's my verging-on-saddlebag hips that have me concerned... any tips other than shorts or a sarong?

I would suggest finding a suit that draws attention to your upper body -- look for bright colors or patterns on the top, and a plain, dark bottom. The eye will naturally go upwards and away from your trouble area.
Also, try on different types of bottoms. You might think you should go for a low-cut leg, but a higher-cut leg can actually lengthen and slim your leg. Good luck!

You're right, finding the right bathing suit can help, but it takes more than that to improve body image.
The Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt recently posted an entry on their blog about the problem of negative body image during "bathing suit season."
