Filed under: Fashion, News, Best of the Season
We love all of the amazing independent designers out there. In order to find out more about just what makes all of these creative types tick, we present to you an ongoing segment called Indie Designer Interviews.
Today's interview is with the talented New Orleans-based fashion designer Elsa Brodmann. Elsa designs modern, feminine ready to wear and bridal collections, as well as jewelry.
Tell us a little about yourself and your work. I own a clothing label based in the New Orleans area. The label has a bridal collection and two women's ready-to-wear collections. The label's focus is to make simple versatile garments that make women look and feel beautiful.
How did you get started as a designer? I always wanted to have my own clothing label. After I graduated with my degree in fashion design, I decided to have my headquarters back in my hometown.
What inspires your work? I love watching silent films and 50's musicals. The costumes are beautiful and so is the music! I also like to read biographies on my favorite artists. It's enlightening to see a brilliant artist's perspective and background. It makes you appreciate their work even more and also inspires me in my work.
Any advice you would give to aspiring designers? Be determined! There will always be people telling you that what you are doing is risky, but keep focused! Making a business successful takes time.Who are your favorite designers? Elsa Schiaparelli, Christian Dior, Edith Head, and Andre Courreges
What are your top fashion & beauty must-haves? I love lip gloss! Right now I wear the Victoria's Secret Very Veluptuous Lip Plumper in baby pink. I also love stockings, anything from Wolford will do!
Where can people find your work? My website at www.ottiliebrodmann.com or my myspace page at www.myspace.com/ottiliebrodmann. I will also be participating in events in June and August. Please check out my website in the events section for details!
Anything else? I have some concept photoshoots coming up with two great photographers, Que Duong and Martin Paul Price. The photos will be posted on my website.
