The Pope ain't wearing Prada

Filed under: CELEBRITY STYLE, Celebrity, News

It's not all that often that the public takes notice of what His Holiness wears. Sure, he gets to drive around in the Popemobile, and he wears a hat, but we doubt Joan Rivers has ever jumped out of a pew at Mass and asked, "Pope, darling, who are you wearing?" Not that we wouldn't kind of love to see that, but as of yet, no dice.

However, eyebrows started raising a year and a half ago after Pope Benedict XVI was photographed in a pair of red shoes that were possibly Prada and was subsequently named 'Accessoriser of the Year' by Esquire. Now, the Vatican's newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano, has spoken up about the Pope's sense of fashion, saying, "The Pope does not wear Prada, but Christ. His worries are not about accessories, but the essential."

The paper added the color red has clear sacrificial significance, and while it didn't say who did make the now famous red shoes, the Corriere della Sera newspaper reported that they were cobbled by Adriano Stefanelli, and definitely not Prada.
