15 Years of BUST

Filed under: CELEBRITY STYLE, Celebrity, News

Anyone who lived through the '90s, might remember these odd things called zines, or fanzines. They were like blogs, but on paper.

One such publication, Bust Magazine started out as photocopied pages in 1993, stapled together by Laurie Henzel, Debbie Stoller and Marcelle Karp. Thanks to a memorable name and a pro-active voice, Bust grew into an important forum for third wave feminism.

15 years later, the magazine is still, "for women with something to get off their chests."

The mag went through a brief identity crisis after being sold to Razorfish in 2000; then bought back by Henzel and Stoller in 2001.

Now a glossy mag with a diy vibe, Bust's crystal anniversary issue features humorist, writer and actor, Amy Sedaris on the cover. Check her out in the June/July issue of Bust, on stands now.

In August, we'll report from the anniversary party, with performances by Leslie Hall, Free Blood, Murray Hill, the Pontani Sisters, The World Famous BOB, Morningwood and aerial acrobatics by Lady Circus. It's a lineup, typical of Bust, with a super talented group of outcasts, queers, and drag queens that other mags simply don't have the, uh, balls to put together.
