Tip of the day: Happy, healthy 4th of July
Filed under: Fashion, How to Wear
Okay, though we don't really obsess about weight – with vacation and the Fourth of July in such close proximity it's impossible not to think about it just a little. To boot, it's a loooong weekend and weekends are when we usually fall off the wagon and eat ice cream and mac & cheese for dinner rather than a fresh chicken sandwich with a side of watermelon.
If you're on the same boat and want to be able to squeeze into that bathing suit after a long weekend of fireworks and indulgence... well then read on my sisters and brothers.
Here are a few calorie tallies of 4th of July favorites:
• Cheeseburger with condiments and veggies: 451 calories and 22.7 grams of fat
• Beef hot dog: 142 calories and 13 grams of fat
• 2 pork BBQ ribs with plain sauce: 290 calories and 17 grams of fat
• 1 cup of homemade potato salad: 358 calories and 21 grams of fat
• ¾ cup macaroni salad: 440 calories and 39 grams of fat
• 1 oz of regular potato chips (about 10 – 15 chips): 155 calories and 11 grams of fat
• 1 oz (a sliver) of chocolate cake: 104 calories and 4.6 grams of fat
• A can of beer: 153 calories and 0 grams of fat
And you know as well as we do that most of us just don't eat 2 ribs, a sliver of cake, and 1 oz of a daiquiri! Make these simple changes to enjoy and still look stunning in your suit:
• Cheeseburger: Hold the cheese and opt for plain hamburger with condiments and veggies: 213 calories and 13 grams of fat
• Beef hot dog: Switch to a chicken or turkey dog: 63 calories and 4.9 grams of fat
• 2 pork BBQ ribs: Try BBQ chicken instead: 118 calories and 1 gram of fat
• Potato Salad: Swap for 1/3 cup or a light mayo: 190 calories and 8 grams of fat
• Macaroni Salad: Switch to 1/3 cup with light mayo for 200 calories 15 grams of fat
• Potato chips: Try pretzels: 107 calories and 1 gram of fat
• 1 oz or a sliver of Chocolate cake: Try some angel food cake instead with whipped cream and light chocolate sauce: 87 calories and 0 grams of fat
