Bruce Oldfield insults Victoria Beckham and Cate Blanchett
Filed under: CELEBRITY STYLE, Celebrity
British fashion designer, Bruce Oldfield, has a criticism of today's A-listers. He thinks they've killed off elegance. There's that and the fact that oversized purses make him "want to vomit."Bruce thinks there is no Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn of our day and age.
When asked about today's style he responds, "It's gone, hasn't it? We've sort of lost it. I don't know why it's happened, but in a way it's become an age thing. I can think of a lot of women clients of mine who are well into their 50s or 60s who are still quintessentially very elegant. They wear simple, good-quality clothes and they just get it right - but there don't seem to be any role models among the younger women."
He also went out on a limb to criticize a few specific starlets.
- On Cate Blanchett: "Cate's OK. I've seen her in evening dresses and I think she's a bit of a clothes horse, but I'm never sure really."
- On Victoria Beckham in a vintage white Armani dress: "Oh God, yes, that dress. Victoria that day looked the worst I've ever seen her. I mean, it's odd because she has a good sense of herself, even though it's not a style I particularly like. But that funny dress, I just don't understand it."
- On J.K. Rowling: "Look at JK Rowling: she's got a suit of mine and she looks fantastic in it. But then I saw a couple of pictures where her boobs were falling out of her dress and I felt so sorry for her. I can't understand it as she's normally very controlled about the way she puts things together."
Does this guy have a chip on his shoulder or what? Sure, we can understand the criticism of Posh. While we personally think she's fierce, her style isn't for everyone. But, why hate on Cate Blanchett? She glows in everything she wears! And J.K. Rowling isn't even an actress or a singer -- she's a writer for Pete's sake! Let her wear what she wants to wear while she churns out Harry Potter stories.
We think Bruce is wrong. There are plenty of elegant young women in Hollywood. Browse through the gallery to see who we think does a great job of bring glam and style to the red carpet!

I think Bruce is absolutely correct. There are very few role models for the younger generation with real style, as so many of them have the same stylist. Of course when talking about real style and elegance, Victoria Beckham is not part of the equation. Women with style and grace do not wear Zebra print dresses with neon underwear and have their breasts shoved up under their chin. They are effortless, and as we all know Mrs. Beckham tries extremely hard to impress.
Cate Blanchett though, is usually always well turned out and holds herself very well. Oh, and lets not forget she also smiles very gracefully.
Angelina Jolie is probably the best role model we have today who ticks all of the boxes. Elegance, check. Selfless and giving, check. Natural sense of style, check. Not a trend follower, check.
For the even younger generation, actresses like Hayden Panettiere (excuse spelling, dont fancy Google right now...) are setting a great example. In a Sex obsessed society, she mangages to steer clear of too much cleavage and has good moral grounding. Lets hope more children follow her example than the likes of Lindsey Lohan etc etc...

Victoria Beckham is just trashy lets face it. She should not be a role model for anyone. Not a singer, not a model, just plain phony!!we don't need people that act like her to be considered to be role models! and she is so young. Any girls in the US look so much better than this British import. I say go back! and media please just stop writing about her. Another thing all that stuff that she supposelly "designs" is made in factories outside of the US who knows if she knows the condition of these places.
