Goth fashion show at The Dark Knight premiere

The Dark Knight is receiving a huge amount of buzz, largely due to the astounding performance of the late Heath Ledger as The Joker. Apparently he is riveting, and this "sequel" maintains the high standards of excitement and action set by director Chris Nolan's 2005 Batman Begins.
We love us some Christian Bale around here, especially when he's dressed up, like at the film's New York premiere on July 14th. Naturally he looked devastating, and even better, everyone at the screening looked goth. They were all dressed in black, as if for a funeral, or a wake. Which in a way, they sort of were.
Whatever the reason, we are always delighted to see people wearing black velvet in the middle of the summer, like producer (and wife of Chris Nolan) Emma Thomas. And Maggie Gyllenhaal looked beautiful, like the Goth Prom Queen, in a long black gown with flowers. It more than makes up for her bizarre makeup on the Tatler cover.
In the gallery you can check out the outfits on the rest of the cast, plus premiere attendees like Blake Lively, Karina Smirnoff and Lauren Conrad, all of whom got the message and wore black. We have to say that some (LC, we're looking at you) were a little too slutty for a funeral. In our opinion. Of course, Karina was showing a lot of skin, too, but it was in more of a "secret widow" sort of way. And we like her better.

Pardon the pun, but I think it looks more Gotham than Goth. They're all dressed in black and dark colors, sure, but so is half of New York. I can see the funeral style reference, but that doesn't necessarily equate with goth. For the most part it just seems like pretty chic, but mostly generic, garb for this type of event. I do like Maggie Gyllenhaal's dress though.
