JCP Vs The Breakfast Club

JCPenny has done one of two things for John Hughes fans, either they've brought back a great memory and provided a chuckle or they've killed a piece of their youth. Results may vary.

The new ad for JCP features a bunch of teens recreating some of the more memorable scenes from Hughes' classic movie The Breakfast Club. We LOVE The Breakfast Club so we feel very strongly that we should hate this commercial, but as embarrassing as it is for us to admit- we don't.
Here's why. We LOVE The Breakfast Club (did we mention that?). We can't help but feel that this ad, sell-out and sacrilege though it may be, will help introduce the film to new generations. We feel this is necessary now more than ever- in the last two days we've seen a designer on "Project Runway" not know what Sgt. Pepper's is and a clerk at the grocer that had never heard of Mardi Gras. Seriously. Never. Heard. Of. Mardi. Gras.

We also used to work with a guy that had never heard of a toritilla, but that's a different story.

We will leave you with the words of Brian Johnson:

You see us as you want to see us: in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But, what we found out is that each one of us is: a brain . . . and an athlete . . . and a basket case . . . a princess . . . and a criminal.

Does that answer your question?

Sincerely yours,

The Breakfast Club.
