Scandal: Pineapple Express ripped off a Brooklyn t-shirt designer?
Filed under: Fashion, News, Best of the Season

In our opinion, coming up with t-shirt design that strikes the perfect balance between dead kittens and bad-ass sharks is an art form of the highest order. And like most advanced masterworks, it's pretty easy to tell when an artist is being ripped off. That would seem to be the case when it comes to the kitten laying in a shark's mouth t-shirt that James Franco wears in Pineapple Express.
A small Brooklyn t-shirt company named WOWCH is complaining that the shirt featured in the movie has a striking resemblance to one that they sold through Urban Outfitters in 2005. We kinda have to agree. Instead of giving credit where credit's due, the film's director apparently got credit for the design concept in an interview with Franco -- adding insult to injury.
They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery. We say: the hell it is! It seems to us that some monetary compensation would be a good start, but all WOWCH wants is a free passes, popcorn, and a really big soda.
