Polo from your palm

Filed under: Style in the News, News

Haven't you ever walked by a store window, or seen an ad for something and thought, "Boy, I'd like to buy that right now without setting foot in a store"? Ralph Lauren is working hard to make that happen, by launching into mobile commerce (m-commerce) which will allow potential consumers to scan a code on a display, ad, or mailer with their phones and shop for the Polo items they adore.

To do this, the company will use Quick Response Technology, which is already popular in Asia and Europe. This makes Polo the first luxury retailer in the U.S. to do so.

You could buy this from your cell phone!

  • Corduroy Heritage Sport Coat, $285
  • Sleeveless V-Neck Dress, $245
  • The Bridle Bag, $2195
  • Vintage Wool Shawl Cardigan, $265
  • Hunters Suede Skirt, $598
The mobile site consumers enter via cell phone will be more than just a place to shop for limited edition collections and exclusive bags -- they'll have the ability to access video content and a Style Guide.

Polo's senior VP of advertising, marketing, and corporate communications explained the why people love (or will love) m-commerce, saying, "Consumers want flexible and convenient services that are accessible on-demand. M-commerce is so appealing because you can shop anywhere, anytime."
