OAK Boston sailor shortsWe love all of the amazing independent designers out there. In order to find out more about just what makes all of these creative types tick, we present to you an ongoing segment called Indie Designer Interviews.

Today's interview is with Keara Sexton, owner of OAK, a Boston boutique stocking handmade clothing and gifts from over 175 different independent designers.

Tell us a little about yourself and your work. I am 21 years old, and I recently opened up a boutique called Oak in Boston to feature handmade products! My work? I sew, crochet and collage everything and anything I can reach. Oak has handmade clothing, jewelry, home goods and much much more from over 175 different designers though.

How did you get started as a designer? At a young age I began to show my love of crafting. I painted the walls of my rooms many times over, I think the walls were a foot thicker when we moved out! I am self-taught for sewing and everything else. So, I follow Tim Gunn's motto "make it work!"

OAK BostonAny advice you would give to aspiring designers? See above: "make it work!" Seriously, the best advice!

What inspires your work? Colors, modern, novelty, humor, fun. I like things that stand out without being totally tacky.

Who are your favorite designers? Clothing? I love Stella McCartney, Chloe. My guilty pleasure is definitely Juicy Couture. I can often be seen sporting bright jump suits.

What are your top fashion & beauty must-haves? I am obsessed with half-sleeve shirts and tunics. Not short sleeve, not 3/4 sleeve. Half sleeve. I will immediately buy anything with that cut!

Where can people find your work? www.oakboston.com and locally at my shop! 31 Gloucester St, Boston, MA right in the glorious Back Bay neighborhood. Right down the street from Chanel, Louis Vuitton and many more fabulous boutiques.
