Indie Designer Interviews: Fugsly Handbags

Fugsly HandbagsWe love all of the amazing independent designers out there. In order to find out more about just what makes all of these creative types tick, we present to you an ongoing segment called Indie Designer Interviews.

Today's featured indie label is Fugsly, a quirky handbag and accessory company based in Glasgow, Scotland. Designer Nicole creates one-of-a-kind pieces and happily takes on custom orders to help you create a truly unique finishing touch for any outfit.

Tell us a little about yourself and your work. My name's Nicole and I'm currently living in Scotland. I've lived all over Britain but there's something about Scotland that makes you want to stick around for a while. My main focus is on bags and wallets although I have been known to make the odd furry monster or pretty skirt for friends and family (and myself of course!).

How did you get started as a designer? I have a deep love for bags and accessories - I think that the right accessory can really set off your entire look. I started off sewing bags by hand but once I got my sewing machine there was no stopping me. Once my bags started taking over my flat I knew that I had to stop hoarding and let other people have a go!

Who are your favorite designers? I absolutely adore skeleanimals and Radley bags for the cuteness, creativity and durability.

What are your top fashion & beauty must-haves? A nice warm scarf and mittens to wrap up on cold days, funky badges and an eye-catching, pretty bag are all must haves!

Any advice you would give to aspiring designers? Always make up a bag to road-test. You need to know that it's comfortable and durable before you start making a line. Also never be afraid to ask for help - everyone started in the same place after all.
