French minister loses bet - has to wear pink Crocs
Filed under: Accessories, Fashion, News
Olympic fashions were a hot topic during the run-up to the games in Beijing, and apparently the ripples haven't quite subsided. Before the Olympics, Roselyne Bachelot -- France's Minister of Health, Youth, and Sports -- made a bet with her country's team. If they come home from Beijing with 40 medals, she'll wear pink Crocs to work. Well, the French team came back with exactly enough to humiliate their minister: 7 golds, 16 silvers and 17 bronzes.
True to her word, Bachelot wore the fugly pink clodhoppers to work at the presidential palace in one of the snobbiest fashion capitals in the world. While it's funny to see a government minister wear Crocs in Paris, we don't think the stakes were high enough. Especially when you consider that the Olympic team from New Zealand had to wear the infamous clogs as part of their outfits in the opening ceremony.
Next time, the Olympic team needs to up the ante. Crocs heels? Shoe-pants, maybe?

I remember a time where flip-flops were embarrassing to wear and now they're a fashion statement. Who really cares that much about what someone else chooses to wear on their feet? There are far more important things in this world to be concerned about and writing a story on.

Crocs may be ungly... but the feel soooo good on the feet. I have a pair just like those.

crocs are hideous. As to those morons who say "so what they r comfy" well that doesn't make it right. Wearing head-to-toe sweatsuits are comfy, going naked is comfy, wearing a burlap sack is comfy but you don't see people dumb enough to wear those and defend it the way you do those godawful crocs.

I DARE YOU TO SLIP A PAIR ON AND WALK AROUND FOR JUST A FEW SECONDS, SEE IF YOUR OPINION DOESN'T CHANGE JUST A WEE BIT. BESIDES, NOBODY EVER SAID CROCS WERE MEANT FOR HIGH FASHION, HIGH FUNCTION PERHAPS, BUT IN GENERAL PEOPLE ARE NOT WEARING THEM TO LOOK GOOD!

Oh fricking PLEASE.
They are not merely comfy---for some they are one of the few styles of shoe that allows them to WALK...
Gee...high fashion in a wheel chaiir. or standing on my own two feet?
I might add that when you have large WIDE feet your choices narrow considerably when it comes to foot wear.
So take that you Shoe snobs....

Lisa is right. If you have a job where you have to stand or walk all day, Crocs are a Godsend to you. I use to limp home from work until I got a pair.
My 16 year old granddaughter, who I promise is very fashion aware, wears them to work now too. She was in pain and decided it wasn't worth it.

Kati, YOU need to correct your comments. You say wearing a burlap sack is comfy, only if what you wear is much worse, so scratch that one.
As for wearing the sweat-suit or going nude, people definitely do that, when & where it's appropriate (and on occasion when inappropriate).
The 'Crocs' remind me of 'Earth Shoes', which I had a pair that were very comfy.

Ugly or not...it's not a good enough 'humiliation' for a bet. Too many people wear them, so no one is going to look shocked and proclaim "OMG!" Maybe a pair of those old wooden "duch shoes" people were wearing when I was in grade school might have been a better thing to make her look silly. Or even "jelly" shoes with the floresent socks. lol. But Crocs...too socially acceptable.

Kelley...I, TOO, have the SAME pink Crocs....and they ARE the most comfy pair of shoes I own! I do NOT care if they're considered ugly, they're the only pair that don't hurt my feet! Hey, if I bet someone something, I'd purposely "lose" just to wear the suckers (of course, they'd HAVE to buy me FIVE pairs first)! LOL

Don't complain about Crocs until you try them. I was in Disneyland for 12 days. The first day my feet got so swollen I could not wear any of my shoes. I was walking around in total pain. It got to the point that I had to stay in the hotel. On the third day my daughter and grandsons came back to the hotel with black and red Crocs with Mickey cut outs for me. Even though I was still very swollen I could get into them and walk. The very next day I was back to normal and wore the Crocs for the rest of the trip.
They are very comfortable and made my trip a GREAT ONE.
