Some artists are just so filled with the urge to create that they can't stick to just one medium. Such is the case with today's featured indie designer Tammy of Unique Garden (all natural bath and body products), uniqueXpression (handmade jewelry), and Unique Treat Dog Bones (organic pet treats).

Tell us a little about yourself and your work. I am a RN, Mother, gardener, and avid crafter. While I have been creating jewelry and various other crafts for the home since I was a child, I only began making my own bath and body products about ten years ago. Since I had always been interested in holistic and herbal treatments, when I found myself with an over abundance of lavender I knew that there had to be a way for me to use it to create my own healing formulas. Thus began a lot of research and experimentation, as well as the foundation of my all natural bath and body cottage company, Unique Garden Essences.

How did you get started as a designer? I began designing jewelry and crafting gifts when I was a small child. I learned very early on to occupy time and entertain myself through creating. As I grew, I learned that not everyone made centerpieces from walnuts, or necklaces from shells. More importantly, I learned that those people that didn't/couldn't braid their own bracelet, would often buy them from people that could. Positive reinforcement and the great pleasure that came from the creation process led to a life-long love of designing. While I have sold my creations at craft fairs and to co-workers for the past 35 years, I began using the label "uniqueXpression" about eleven years ago when I first began to show them in local shops.

What inspires your work? Nature. I am very into natural, earthy creations. I use herbs and botanicals in my bath and body line, and I was doing country chic and primitive decorations long before those terms even existed. While I make some earrings with colorful crystals, my jewelry still reflects the colors and feel of nature.

Who are your favorite designers? I don't know that I have a favorite. I can appreciate most designers for what they represent, and I love diversity. I do, of course, especially like any design that incorporates nature in design and/or inspiration.

What are your top fashion & beauty must-haves? I am sorry to say that I am not a slave to fashion at all. I prefer comfort over style. As far as beauty products, you can probably guess what I'll say by now. I must have all natural products. Of course, I make all my own, so I can be assured of quality!

Where can people find your work? I have my part of my bath and body line on at Etsy.com, uniquegarden.etsy.com , TrendyShoppes.com, and at local craft fairs, as well as some local shops. My jewelry and crafts are sold on line at uniquexpression.etsy.com, at craft fairs and at Christmas at the Cabin.

Anything else? I have artistic ADHD. I enjoy designing and creating in a variety of mediums. I do not follow trends, but I do follow my bliss. Because of this, I actually have three Etsy shops. Unique Garden for bath and body, uniqueXpression for jewelry and crafts, and Unique Treat Dog Bones for natural dog treats and grooming supplies. I handmake everything I sell, and I enjoy creating all that I make.
