Duchovny dropped by Johnston & Murphy - hate to say it
Filed under: CELEBRITY STYLE, Celebrity, Hot or Not

(But wait, there's more! Click the photo to see which other sexed-up celebs might be addicted to doing the business)
We really hate to predict the demise of celebrities, especially ones that voluntarily check themselves into rehab without a court order. Even more so when it happens to be the star of a show that we were totally addicted to in middle school. Still, speaking of addiction, we have to gloat that we totally called this: David Duchovny's ads for Johnston & Murphy got pulled because having internet sex addicts represent your clothing and luggage brand is creepy. Sorry dude.
It's actually a real shame because the ads look great. The photos, snapped by Walter Chin, look sharp and compelling just like you'd expect for a Johnston & Murphy campaign. Duchovny looks super fashionable and alluring -- and that's the problem. After Duchovny's very public admission to a rehab institution for sex addiction/porn addiction or whatever it is, J&M realized that their great new ads might not be sending the signals that they want to send.
It sucks to have to kick a celebrity when they're down, but we imagine that he got to keep the money. That ought to help ease the pain. Best of luck to Dave in his quest to be sex-free, or whatever.

I guess i can understand why they would try and separate their self from Duchovny. Its a business decision after all. But i really admire him for realizing he has a problem and trying to get help. That said those pictures are amazing. If they don't want them I'd love for them to send them to me:)

I honestly think it was a bad business move. The pictures are fabulous and I had never even had heard of this company before this. Now they will forever be known as the company that stupidly dropped David Duchovny. I really wish this country would get over their ridiculous ideas about sex.

Addiction is not a "ridiculous idea." No matter what form it takes--drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex, or whatever--it can destroy lives if not treated. An addict's life affects not only himself or herself, but families and friends and associates. Duchovney is doing the right thing to get help. I wish him well.

Brave fella to acknowledge that he has an addiction and go get help for himself- even more so in the face of publicity. Sex is great but addiction free is the only way to be.

You're right, addiction isn't, but them pulling the ad's because it's over sex is. If it was heroine or alcohol I'm sure everyone would say, "oh boy, good job and good luck," give him a pat on the back and let the ad's keep going, but it's not. It's sex. So the ad's are pulled and they couldn't pull them fast enough. That's what's rediculous.

An addiction is an addiction, whether it is food, alcohol, drugs, or sex. Who made us the moral arbiter of the world. As a recovering drug addict, I understand the urges that David Duchovny is wrestling with. It ain't easy. I was and have never been religious, but it really does help to pray for strength. God bless you and your family, David. May he give you all of the strength you need to battle through this! I'm in your corner.

Personally I never thought he was THAT goodlooking. Just cute. Why did he have to make a public spectical out of going onto rehab? Why not just go, not tell anybody, or at a minimum keep the reason to yourself and let people speculate. There must be something more to it - like maybe a criminal act was committed. Why be soooo honest - TMI if you ask me.

Sex isn't bad, but neither is food unless you eat way too much or way too little and you become obsessed with it. Either one requires professional help. And, who knows what kind of sex addiction is was--it could be an addiction of viewing something illegal. It could also be that he just has been caught more than once with someone other than his wife and she is sick of it and is making him embarrass himself instead of losing his family. He is one of the most well educated men in Hollywood, but that doesn't mean he has the common sense to stay faithful in a town crazy for bringing celebrities down.

I guess I understand, but it's too bad. I had never heard of/noticed the company before this campaign. The banner in the window actually drew me into the store. He's gorgeous. The ads are gorgeous. They chose him because he's professionally successful and sexy. He's still successful and sexy, but now he's also smart enough to know that he needs help.

Kate, I completely agree with you. The photos are amazing and he has always been amazing. I don't know that it will affect the company positively by dropping him. I do hope the best for him and his family.

I'd use him in an ad. This kind of thing doesn't bother me a bit.

I really don't see why the company would drop him. Didn't they know he's starring in a show named "Californication"? Having a sex addiction couldn't possibly be seen as a stretch.

Sex addiction? Is that the same thing as getting a lot?

I thought just about everyone was a sex addict.
It keeps the planet populated.

Bad move on their part. People like him as a person and actor. He looks great in that ad. I hope they reconsider and support him.
