Totally unnecessary: Sears to offer virtual 3-D dressing rooms

Filed under: Fashion, News, Designers & Brands

Whatever you do, don't forget that there's nothing in this whole freaking world that you can't do from the comfort of your couch -- even try on clothes from Sears. That's right, Sears is in the process of launching a virtual dressing room that you can access via their website. They're teaming up with IBM and a Montreal-based programmer My Virtual Model to take your height, weight, and measurements to create a virtual model that you can play dress up with. Weird.

We have no idea how realistic it will look, or why the hell that Sears thinks it's a good idea. It seems pretty safe to say that people filling their closets full of Sears clothing probably don't care that much about how it looks on them -- much less on a virtual avatar. Sears must think that weird gimmicks will make up for their lack of fashionable styles. Wait, we already found something that's actually cool. Damn. Guess we might actually have to create a virtual model to try on this Levi's Drifter Vest.
