Let's face it, in today's world we could all use a little positive inspiration. These bracelets from JMH jewelry are meant to bring just that to the wearer. Each piece has a custom designed medallion engraved with words to help keep you going in the hard times: determination, perseverance, integrity and passion. We checked in with the designer, Joan, to find out more about what inspires her.

Tell us a little about yourself and your work. I've been a designer at heart since high school but took a job in a different industry to support my family. Ultimately there comes a time when you have to follow your dream and that is exactly how JMH jewelry was born. My jewelry line comes from a place of my own successes and failures and love of all things fashion. Only with "Determination, Perseverance, Integrity and Passion" did I get through a divorce, raise a family, and complete ten marathons as well as a short Triathlon - to date.

How did you get started as a designer? While training for my seventh marathon I had sustained two stress fractures and would have to stop training. So the time previously dedicated to training was now withering away in the vast wasteland of time. Now, with all this extra time I finally decided to pursue my passion for fashion. In my line of jewelry I wanted to incorporate a positive message of inner strength.

What inspires your work? My work is inspired by my love of fashion as well as the need to create something different and unique. I always have a positive and meaningful message in all my work.

Who are your favorite designers? My favorite designers are Carolina Herrera, Vera Wang and Badgley Mischka.

What are your top fashion & beauty must-haves? My fashion must haves are a fabulous bag and shoes (I own more than 250 types of shoes). From my 'Sex in the City' type shoes to my Crocs I love all types of shoes.

My beauty must-haves are chap-stick, moisturizer, and a good hair product.

Any advice you would give to aspiring designers? The only advice I can give to anyone is to always follow your dreams. Sometimes they may need to go on a shelf for a period of time but always nurture them in some way.
