Isaac Mizrahi's How to Have Style
Filed under: Fashion, Beauty, Makeup, Stylish Living

We really like our sense of style, but we're always interested in how the experts suggest we update or change it, so when we had a chance to review Isaac Mizrahi's new book, How to Have Style, we jumped at the chance. The premise of the book is that every woman is stylish from the start -- some women just need a little help expressing it. Mizrahi begins the lessons by having the reader fill out a questionnaire with questions on everything from "What's your favorite piece of art or photograph?" to "What's your favorite part of your body?" He then does a great job of helping you use those answers to determine how to have style.
The chapters each dealt with a different woman with a different challenge, but we didn't particularly agree with all of his advice. For instance, he's a big fan of having women wear a bright, sexy bra under a shirt so that it shows -- and unless you're in Vegas, we don't think that's particularly stylish.
And, while we try to be adventurous with mixing prints, Mizrahi takes it to an entirely new level. A level we're not quite comfortable with, but we do appreciate the fact that he pushes boundaries.
His discussion of boobs and bras brings to mind the time he worked the red carpet and fondled Scarlett Johansson's breasts. But, the man makes a good point -- namely, that all women should be professionally measured for a bra.
Overall, it's a fun, easy read. We enjoyed reading about the transformations of a bunch of different women, and liked the way Mizrahi took into account each woman's preferences and lifestyle when putting together ensembles. We doubt all the women were as happy with their new looks as they professed, but there's still plenty for all kinds of fashionistas to learn.
