We know that Johnny Depp has a thing for a nice fedora, but apparently his love affair with head gear goes even deeper than that -- you could say that he's got a taste for hats. In fact, on the set of his current film Alice in Wonderland -- reportedly starring Helen Bonham-Carter and Anne Hathaway -- director Tim Burton told reporters that Johnny is taking his role as the Mad Hatter so literally that he actually took a bite out of his character's top hat. Yum.

We've seen the intensity with which Johnny threw himself into roles like Hunter Thompson and Jack Sparrow, so we guess its not that out of line for him to drive himself into a hat-eating crazy method acting fervor in his role as the Mad Hatter. Still, we're sitting here daydreaming about the actual physics of heating a hat brim, and we can't quite envision it. Wouldn't that mess up your teeth? Guess then you could get some tooth tats to go along with your shredded hat. Here's what Burton told Contactmusic.com:
"Nobody plays oddballs better than Johnny and he's loving playing this one. He actually ate his hat the other day. No word of a lie he just bit into the brim and chewed."
