RNC gives Sarah Palin a $150,000 shopping stipend

At a vice presidential debate watching party, a friend made a very startling discovery: "I think Sarah's pumps are Ferragamo."
What? We immediately dismissed her statement, blaming the random designer name drop on the wine in the box that was in heavy rotation at the little get together. But it appears our inebriated friend may have been on to something:
Politico reports the Republican National Convention has funneled around $150,000 to Sarah Palin in order to keep her and her family outfitted in clothes and accessories from "elitist" shops like Saks (where they spent $49,425.74) and Neiman Marcus (where they spent a whopping $75,026.63 -- in one visit!). Because that's where all of the "real Americans" shop, you betcha!
Some of the family's purchases include a swanky pacifier for the little one Trig, an expensive suit for the "first dude," and a couple grand towards acquiring Mrs. Palin the best beauty team in politics (no wonder her trendy updo is catching on with celebs!).

I'm pretty sure that the men in the election have suits already, and if they don't they'd buy their own. But hey, give palin a break she was a PTA member a few years ago and now she's looking at a promotion into the oval office. To all the repubs that posted below: did you guys get dropped on your head or something? Maybe it's part of the initiation into the party......

.....and what does Michele Obama spend on her clothes?
Don't be so damn naive!

WHO CARES!.. Is AOL commenting on where Obama has received a lot of his money that he is spending on the trail and T.V. ? I think not.
If he does get elected, you liberal POS will have the sociaist country you voted for...Ya'll are just mad because she is smarter than Obama, she has more experience than Obama. You libs want everything handed to you, or the government to take care of you..Guess what? It does not work.
Get off your ass, get a better job or get a job!
Then maybe YOU can run for office one day and show us how it's done. Otherwise, sit down, shut up and hang on, cuase this is gonna be one hell of an election!

LOL That"s a fake LV handbag - she must have bought it in Canada while scanning the horizon towards Russia. She definitely has foriegn policy experience...she's buying imitation products from China!

Willo you and the liberal press ever admit to being biased. Can Obama do no wrong? You are certainly narrowed minded and ignorant. Do we have any idea what the Obama clothing and makeup budget is? We never will. The press will never look.

Yey, Socialism & Communism. Give me a break, Next McCain will call Obama the long lost illegitimate great grandson of Hitler...ohh scary bad man pals around with terrorists too! It's a typical last resort of a politician who is falling in the polls. You should vote for the man (or woman), not to party. Vote Obama....& I'm a Republican!

It's good to spend money during economic crises! We need to stimulate the economy and there is no better way to do that then to spend money.
Marie 10-22-2008 @ 10:35PM
It is so refreshing to know that Michelle Obama likes to shop in places that all the rest of us shop! You know Sarah Palin and family may be shopping in Saks and Neiman Marcus for the first time--do they have these stores in Alaska???? Or could it just be that once again the Republicans are showing how much they really have in common with "Middle America!" Frankly, just knowing that each year when I contribute (on my income tax return) money to support political campaigns, that some of that money went to buying Sarah Palin a new wardrobe is a bit much. Just think how many poverty stricken students could be fed lunch on that money???
Sandy 10-22-2008 @ 11:09PM
I agree. At a time when many of us are foregoing going to doctors, buying prescription drugs, paying mortgages etc. How can Sarah Palin and her family charge up 150k to us the tax payers?
Kris 10-22-2008 @ 11:11PM
What does the economy have to do with whether a person has the money to buy expensive clothing? I buy what I can afford I do not shop according to an economic index! I thought we were being encouraged to shop and spend money to improve the economy! Has the media asked the brand name of Obama's or Biden's suits and how much do they spend on their suits, ties and shoes? I thought not!
Jason Hansmann 10-22-2008 @ 11:29PM
Amen! She's our Governor and we all hate her! Using state money to fund all her other excursions and doesn't need the donation. Power trip is right!
Michael O'Reilly 10-23-2008 @ 12:06AM
I totaly agree, she has as much in common with hockey moms as George Bush has , when was the last time you seen a hockey mom with a 150,000 to spend on anything never mind clothes and hair doos
mrspatoyna 10-23-2008 @ 9:27PM
Check how much Hillary Clinton spent;
How much is Michelle Obama spending?
How much is Cindy McCain spending?
It is par for the course - nothing earth shatteringly new. Be realistic. Look at any TV show wardrobe budget, bet it's more for just one show. After all these candidates/their families are on TV all day long.......
Jenn 10-23-2008 @ 12:03AM
Sarah Palin is worth every penny! She deserves a fab wardrobe because she is a fab person! Making lots of money is good. So is spending lots of money! This is just another attempt to drag people off the important stories. For example, where in the world is Obama's birth certificate?
dee 10-23-2008 @ 12:20AM
Rod,
Mrs. Obama shops at Target. That's why the press doesn't go after her. Ms. Palin, on the other hand spends more money on her outfits than most of us have in our lifetime!
Bookman 10-23-2008 @ 12:43AM
Not only did the $150,000 pay for Palin's clothes, it also paid for clothes for her husband at Atelier, a high priced men's clothing store. What's the legality of all of this? As a contributing Republican, I am outraged that my contribution was used this way when I understood it would be used for ads and the like. I feel this is dishonest and we lied to.
