Chace Crawford graces winter issue of VMAN
Filed under: Style in the News, News
Gossip Girl's Chace Crawford is very pretty. In fact, the actor is so swoon worthy that he beat out three of his equally beautiful cast mates -- Blake Lively, Taylor Momsen, and Leighton Meester -- to be the first in the attractive bunch to score a major fashion contract. Admittedly, though, Versace denies it replacing Patrick Dempsey with Crawford but we know the truth Donatella!Anyways, Mr. Cool Guy's pretty mug graces the first-ever VMAN winter issue this month. Regarding all of the attention concerning his personal life, the actor tells the mens style mag: "I let it roll off my back. There's a lot of speculation with no reality to it, complete fabrications about my private life. It's just comical."
On a side note, it's worth noting that famed fashion photographer Mario Testino was the guest editor of this issue. Testino is also so the same man who shoots all of the Versace ad campaigns. And the conspiracy theory lives!

What is up with these womanly looking men lately? It's sickening. Let's see some real men, like Dempsey,Christian Bale, Jeff Bridges. I can't stand men who wear more makeup than I do.

As a professional make-up artist I wholeheartedly agree with you that many photos of male actors/stars have them over-made-up to the point that they look varnished. There are two reasons for this. Typically, a makeup artist who specializes in men (and invariably the caption will read "styled by.." rather than "makeup by" in order to make it sound more butch) are people who specialize in working with guys. The techniques are slightly different, subtlety is of the essence, and you also have to work around stuff like stubble, sometimes ingrown hairs, and the fact that guys, actors or not, usually do not take the same care of their skin that women do. I have a friend who now does 75% male styling after 30 years in the biz because her touch is so light and she leaves men looking manly.
I suspect that the ghastly photo of Chace crawford has him made up badly on purpose, tho I am sure the artist doesn't KNOW it was done badly. They want to capitalize on the ambiguity surrounding him. But honestly, it is badly lighted, and the whole thing looks like a really femmy pic of Rudolph Valentino from a 20's "Photoplay" magazine cover.

It's wierd how some people look at beauty. When the Rollling Stones came on the scene, everybody thought Mick Jagger was ugly. But, the more we were exposed to him over the years, the more beautiful he became. Same with old movie actors like Humphrey Bogart. He was definitley NOT a handsome man, but the more we saw him, the more acceptable he was. Sinatra was a skinny little Italian kid from Hoboken. Look what happened to him.
